Very interesting selection of Ethan Cook at halfback.

Cook in the 7 is the strangest selection i've seen for a while.

When Kurt Mann gets over his injury he will probably slot right into that 7 if Roberts isn't dropped from firstgrade.

We will probably see a few SG Ball guys step up in 2 or 3 weeks - Michael Steele will fill a prop spot, Pat Mata'utia should get a wing a fullback spot etc.

The hard one will be Clydesdale. He could well be a great hooker, but it's really hard seeing him push out Knight or Redman. His older brother played all through the grades at Penrith and was a regular state rep. He even played a first grade trial last year I think. It wouldn't surprize me to see him follow his brother, although you would think Tinks would want to keep hold of the grandson of an upper Hunter legend who captained Australia from Scone - just the sort of heritage Tinks would be interested in.

I'm surprized they aren't going with Will Smith and Tyler Sullivan in the 7 and 6 - they played those roles together in Mathews and Ball - the only thing they could never work out was which one was the best 7.
I suspect they have decided Will has a big future at centre - he reminds me a lot of Brad Tighe - he was a regular rep squad member as a 5/8 till he hit reserve grade and then he showed a lot of class in the centres and they kept him there. The two have very similar careers to this point and very similar skills.

Surely Cook will be playing 6?

If we are desperate for halves options in NYC and having to resort to playing a backrower at halfback, why not play Connelly at 6 or 7? He was a proven performer there in Matts and Ball, when he used to play for West Maitland he would carve all the Newcastle teams up on a regular basis and make them look second rate.

Certainly a strange selection.

4 - 0 to Melbourne after 3 minutes and one set each.

Sam Anderson out and Josh Ailoami to starting prop, Jeffrey to the bench.

10-0
down to 12 men
only two young props on the bench, both more second rowers than props really.

Maybe Jermaine will swap Jerseys at halftime and play with his old mates.

Josh is the guy who broke Boyd Cordners jaw a few years ago - maybe he is on a mission to take out old Newcastle juniors and has had a shot at Jermaine Wilson - that would be a heavyweight contest.

Rodney Mason leading the tackle count and the metres gained.

He is about 3 games back from injury and is probably ready to show what he can do.

I think there was a fight? they said something about a fight on the radio? But they said there were a few fights, so maybe they resulted from the game heating up after the send off.

If so you dont get sent off for just fighting, unless u king hit a bloke, or knee/kick someone.

Hopefully it was an accidental tackle gone wrong, and nothing malicious.
