NRL Round 7 - Roosters Vs Knights - 2:00pm Sunday, 19th April - Allianz Stadium

This game isn’t about those out injured but more importantly who, Brown, may be back and who gets promoted to the injury hit spots.
If Brown has any doubts then please give him another week to ensure all is well.
Positions 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16 from last week look like lock ins.
1)Hunt but if Brown is back could be Sharpe. 4)looking more like McCarthy but depending on 1 could be Hunt. 6 & 7) depends on Browns availability then is he 6 or 7, if unavailable it’s Sharpe 6 and Smith 7, if Brown is 6 then Smith is 7, if Brown is 7 then Sharpe is 6 and Smith is ?.
11) several potential players headed by ESL and Manuleleua, are either or both ready, they should be, throw in Cant who is regularly selected in the 19. 15) Has to be between Hola and Crouch both strong in Cup. 17) Has been Cant but I lean towards ESL or Manuleleua as 11 or 17. 18-19) depends on who is in 1-17 Lots of options
Just re-read this and it’s a selection nightmare caused by lots of injuries.
My pick for what it’s worth is 1 Sharpe/Hunt, 2 Young, 3 Gagai, 4 McCarthy, 5 Marzhew, 6 Brown/Sharpe, 7 Brown/Smith, 8 JSaf, 9 Crossland, 10 Mooney, 11 ESL, 12 McEwen, 13 Croker, 14 Graham, 15 Crouch, 16 Saulo but would consider Hola. 17 Manuleleau, 18-19 depending on what happens 1-17 then Hunt, Smith, Cant or Hopwood

FML is this some sort of WW2 secret code the allies need to break Frank?

The Roosters have some areas we can target if we can hold our own in the middles. They can be error prone and ill disciplined (much like us). DCE is a big spot. Doesn’t communicate well and leaves his outside defenders in the lurch.

Friz is a massive loss though. We need Mooney to have a breakout game to be any chance. He’s been pretty disappointing so far.

Each to their own but I wouldn’t rest the entire teams success on a 23 year old prop that’s had 29-30 odd nrl games.

Mooney has been top 3 props for us and easily better all around than Saulo who whilst better in defence losses out in everything else

I think the entire forward pack as a whole need to lift for this one, I hope to see Hola in the team

Disagree I think Saulo has outplayed Mooney. After a poor first few games he’s looked quite strong. Mooney hasn’t been terrible but I had higher expectations of him.

I also think Savala could be quite vulnerable even though he is a solid defender for a young bloke he is playing out of position.

I don’t entirely disagree with the mooney take because I think his offload has added another dimension to our attack and something our middles haven’t had for a few years now and he has been great at getting defenders on their backs more often than not. However I do think his meterage as a starting middle hasn’t been up to standard because averaging only 51 meters in the last three games is disappointing for sure.

Savala looked good at centre on the weekend. I think he's limited as a half but he has quick hands and he's a good mover. Bigger than you think too. Unfortunately I don't think he's a big weak point for them.

Like a lot of teams you just want to force their edge forwards to make a lot of tackles and get caught at marker by sharking their halves constantly, both edges have to bodyguard for their halves a fair bit so you can wear them out.

On Mooney. As a 23 year old, being thrown into our starting rotation is lot to ask. FG is a different beast to cup. He is leaning the rigours of being a regular, starting FRF. I think bringing him in off the bench occasionally is fine. Saulo doesn’t have as high a ceiling as Mooney but he does have more FG experience and a bit older.

So remember boys we should not expect this young bloke to be on fire every week, but he should get there, and we need to be patient.

Remember a young Leo Thompson whe he come to our club. Took him 2 seasons to cement himself as a top FG FR.

Agree the games I have seen Savala is not a weekness at centre . Appears a natural footballer . Actually wish we had him at the moment 😀
