Funny I tried this argument a few weeks ago. It seems others are catching fire with this theory also. We have been hopeless all year even considering injuries. This is not a well coached team.
Unfortunate with injuries but our "next man up" appear to play as poorly as the ones the replace . Got to be close to the weakest top 30 in the comp.

I said this is our trial match we got pumped badly. Our depth players should be able to aim up somewhat and they were hopeless. We don’t appear to have any club wide structures that they all can fall under. Or they simply aren’t capable of doing so.

Were there any positives?
Fletcher can kick at least. That’s one data point that says he actually can play in the halves. Fletcher does also just look to feed men in space rather than play to a rigid set routine so that’s good. The criticism you’d have to have of Fletcher at this point is that his movement and passing in the first layer of shape is very inconsistent, he’s running guys out of space or putting the ball behind them far too often. This can be worked on.
Last week we had Kalyn kick for a Sharpe try, this week Sharpe kicked for Kalyn to chase through (just gave it a little bit too little air). So that’s a fair bit of the two of them making a concerted effort to play with and off each other rather than the usual Kalyn thing of everyone having to either set him up or dump it off to him and wait.
A lot of the worst stuff in the attack still is stuff happening directly around Cogger, and he won’t make the 17 barring injury crisis next year.
J Saf is playing unreal footy. Legitimately if he keeps this up we actually do have an elite play 1 front rower all of a sudden.

Yeah JSaf coming back is immediately noticeable, what it mainly made me notice is how far in front of Leo he is for impact. Leo does more work but isnt scary with ball or in defence. Jurbo kinda mould.

Yeah I'm afraid the Saffs have never been a great return on investment . Be nice if he has found some heart & keep this level going for a couple of years

If it’s any consolation, I feel the Titans got a bit lucky Friday night. There tactic was just to offload the ball. Yes we should have done better to wrap it up, but there were a few times they just lucky with the bounce.
When a team loses a challenge, the opposition I feel as a tactic pushes the envelope. We still played poorly that second half, but if the ball doesn’t bounce there way things may have been different and we scrape home with the win.
As with Jsaf any Elliot I think we have also missed Hethington. I would say he has slightly more impact than Leo when he comes on.

What did the Warriors pay for Barney? In hindsight he was a massive loss. Could we have afforded him to stay don’t know. If he stayed with us I still think he’s the same player playing origin now.

I can't really fault the effort in this game it was clear they were putting in. And even on that last play, where the titans scored that game winner, the ball travelled out to the sideline and there was four Knights players there trying to shut it down. He got a kick away, and that caught everyone off guard, nobody home to clear it up.
But, defence is about attitude and they were there in numbers. If they did manage to shut that down we win that game. And the commentators and us on here are talking about the win, and the great desperation shown in defence there.

The very small sequences that we’ve held onto the ball and got in the arm wrestle it’s pretty clear we are competitive. But it’s been a constant thing now. I don’t know how much you can blame AOB on NRL players dropping the ball cold constantly. It just needs to improve, it’s just that simple. And it’s usually the same culprits, the whole backline are guilty of it.

Hard to say. I think players just need a change sometimes.
My understanding was that at the Knights under AOB they long thought he was better as a middle. But the form that very often took was that he'd be a bench prop, or he'd play lock if we didn't have Watson/Mann fit to do it. Barney wanted to play on an edge and didn't want to be a bench player. He did start at prop a few times but only when there was no other option. I'm not sure internally there was great belief that as a regular starting prop forward playing big minutes he'd be not just good, but elite.
Pretty consistently I feel like there's a "type" of player AOB thinks he needs at prop - like a requisite amount of size, athleticism, running punch - and then at lock he wants a guy with good enough ball skills that he could play in the halves or at hooker, and will sacrifice a bit of size & physicality to get there. In a sense you can see that Barnett and Josh King fit a similar archetype - not just because they're white, they're both exactly the same height and within 1kg of each other; neither are elite with their carries (I would go as far as to say Leo is a better ball carrier than either, let alone J Saf, he just has a worse motor) but both are incredibly fit and can maintain physicality with their defence for a full 80 minutes if needed - that internally at the Knights, hasn't been valued. AOB likes elite athletes and cheap workhorses.
So yeah if we've seen the same oversight in relation to both Barnett and King, I don't have great optimism they would have become the players they are now if they stayed at the Knights.
