NRL Round 1 - Knights Vs Cowboys - 1:15pm Sunday 1st March (AEDT) - Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas

something else I wanted to recognise was the team rising to an occasion on a big stage, at a big event.

In the past we haven't been the best at turning up to "special" days, like player debuts or anniversary games. It was great that we flew over there, allowed themselves time to soak in the atmosphere and Vegas, then got back to work and turned in a good solid performance. This sort of game would have been near certain loss in the past.

And with Sharpe going out early and a change in the halves, the team didn't panic or struggle really and were in the arm wrestle the whole game I thought without an obvious period in the game where we were flat. I thought it was a consistent effort for the 80 that got the result.
I liked that we didnt get 'tired' at the 60 min mark, get ran through until the 75th minute and then find a second wind after the game was just out of reach.

We performed like a team, we defended really well and we did it all game. Havent seen that in many years.

The power of a positive approach. A lot didn't go to plan and let's be frank we do not have the cattle to "control" a game for 80 minutes. So you just have to tough it out, and it's easier to do that if you believe you're going to score when you get the ball back.

So I listened to NRL physios analysis of Sharps injury. He thinks PCL low to medium grade. The interesting point he made was the injury happened from the play before. A knee clash. So the footage we see where we see him buckle untouched was not the time of the injury.
That would be such a relief. The fact that he was walking around afterwards and looked fine after the game was very positive, but that replay where he went down with no one touching him couldn't be ignored. That's not how corks work. Heart dropped when he went down but looks like it's going to be close to best case scenario!

Something I didnt notice during the game and only just saw it watching it back, when Gags passes the ball to Dom and scores most of the team ran to celebrate with Dom expect for Ponga who sprinted over to Gags and was celebrating the pass, it's not much but it's good to see Ponga giving credit to the the man who assisted the try.

Have to say what was a pleasant surprise was that we actually looked like we knew what we were trying to do. Under AOB not only did I have no idea what they were trying to do, it appeared they didn’t either. Funny how there was a clear plan to move the ball around and offload yet not much dropped ball. Most of the errors came from trying things.

They also had plans clearly designed for playing the Cowboys, eg KP kick to Sharpe. Now that I think of it, I’m surprised more teams haven’t tried the little bomb on Drinkwater’s head as he’s not a great leaper. Dare say we might see it more now that we showed how easily he can be out jumped

It was mentioned earlier about all the little things Psaulo does well. Just wanted to add that for the first time in a long time the team was actually awake the entire match. Even though AOB improved their defence, just about everybody was happy to clock off once the ball went passed them. I know it’s only a one off for now, but there wasn’t really any of that yesterday. When somebody went to offload there was always someone to passs it to. Usually they’d stand around like stunned mullets. In the last 5 mins, the kick to Dom also had Mooney and Frizzell backing up looking to support Dom which is something I’m sure would please the coach

So good to see a marked change in attitude and belief in the whole team. At twelve all, the commentators were writing us off again. I think the win was very important for the whole team and coaching staff as it reinforces what the coach and team have been doing in the 'off season' and hopefully they can keep building on the combinations.

KP gets 6 Dally M points for waking up in the morning but very well deserved in Round 1.

Don't get Dom snagging a point over Marz, maybe one of the judges is a pom.

Yeah Dom is a strange one. Didn’t have a great game defensively. Would say J Saf, Mooney, Lucas and Gags were all more deserving.
