NRL General Recruitment and Retention

Going to be very difficult to ensure we get that much needed middle forward especially having to compete with the Chiefs and Bears.
We might be best offering Frizell to play another year who along with Niukore give us experience while the likes of Hopwood getting another year to develop along with others coming through.
Letting Gags, Gamble, Jones and possibly Marzhew go will give us a bit of play money to wave in front of Lucas if needed.
The sleeper is Sullivan W currently unsighted in 2026 and obviously injured and some talk might not play again, if so further saving no matter how little.

Hopwood will come off the bench and average over 100 metres per game next season. The signs are so good. He's big but moves well for his size and the ease with which he can already offload the ball & the effort it already takes to bring him down are great signs. Another pre-season after getting a bit more experience in the NRL and he's going to be very good very fast. It's such a good sign that even against Penrith, if he can get onto the ball at speed against anything that isn't really strong front-on contact on him, it's going to be an offload or a lightning fast play the ball every time. He's gonna be a beast.

I think we need to try and keep Marz. Stating the obvious he is like an extra forward. Sign him for 2 year with option would be ideal. He may want 3 years. I’m confident Hunt will take Gags centre spot. I don’t know if Winter will be ready next year? I doubt it.

Latrell Mitchell ended his 18 months media ban and basically said he has no interest in joining the PNG Chiefs lol

I think it’s very shrewd of the Warriors to move that contract on personally.

The stuff which really works at that club is the forward pack including the excellent work out of dummy half, and their outside backs. Honestly don’t think Metcalf is as good as he’s rated even without the injuries.

I’ve always had a lot of time for Chanel, reminds me a bit of Kieran Foran. Tough as anything and does all the stuff you want your 6 to do at a pretty good level even if he’s not the slickest. More of a compliment to your other spine guys than the main man though. But yeah they have played better, their attack has functioned better, with Tanah than it did with Metcalf. I don’t think Metcalf is a good 7 but he won’t even consider playing 6, which for me is a red flag. Contrast with Dylan Brown who’s maybe hinted that he likes being the 6 but has just gotten on with it as the 7 for us without complaint.

Apparently, Metcalf will sign with the Dragons. This is good news for the Dragons with three quality players in Keaon, Drinky and Metcalf signing, and Philip Sami lol....actually don't think the Sami signing is as bad as some have suggested if he's priced correctly.

It's also good news that the Dogs have missed. Long may they struggle.

I don’t think it’s that good of a buy looking at it from the outside, obviously the upside is really good but the money is just stupid really.

We are talking about a guy that has done what really? He looks above average which I guess is an improvement if you look at it that way but he is injury prone, he got shelved because Boyd is just much better as a 7.

If you look at the signing as potential than I guess it’s a good signing, looking at it from current and historic lens than a reported $1m is grossly overpaid and I think the Dogs actually won out of this.

Just my opinion but I don’t think he is that good as a 7 even when he was going good I wondered how much was him and how much was the forwards and system, I guess we will find out, because at $1m people expect you to hit the ground running so people will expect him to be a elite half for the dragons if you want the money you have to accept the responsibility that comes with it.

It seems like it’s starting next year, though I’ll say it’s certainly better than Shane getting his son a new 700-800k deal and Reed can learn the ropes in the mean time. Definitely a starting point to move on from Kyle’s mediocrity as the main 7.

Dragons don’t have a choice, they’re abysmal. Beggars can’t be choosers. They don’t have the luxury of saying no to Metcalf, who else would they sign?

Drinkwater and Metcalfe add creativity and speed to their side, two things they’re desperately in need of.

There’s much worse deals in that team, like Gutho and Val

Oh I agree and they were coming last with Kyle there as the main guy. Facts are there. And only way is up.
You take what’s there and go from there.

I just think it’s better then the alternative mentioned above if Shane was there and they’re stuck with Kyle on more money just cause for a few years staying at the bottom.
