Wests members vote on Knights alliance
Members of the Wests Rugby League Club are being given extra time to vote on a new commercial partnership with the Newcastle Knights.
Under the 12-year deal, the cash-strapped Knights would retain control of football operations, while Wests would take over the club's financial management and spend $1 million annually underwriting its operations.
Wests members were originally asked to vote on the deal before the end of last week but club president Kevin McDougall said voting had been extended.
"We thought it was only right that the members get an opportunity to express their views as to how we're going to spend their money," Mr McDougall said.
"We felt the advertisements in the paper weren't quite big enough to attract members' attentions and we wanted to be completely transparent with everything we're doing and give the members an opportunity to express themselves.
"And that's the reason we've extended it until next Wednesday."
