Nathan Brown discussion

Billy, Tim, I understand what you are saying if you could guarantee the premiership. But that isn't for me. How many premierships was Bennett going to win when he came here? Four? Won none and still left a steaming pile behind. We have had to front up each week and watch a team that is a direct result of that up until now. I never want to go through that again. Dessie didn't get the premiership at the bulldogs btw before leaving the steamer.

If we keep our best juniors from now on, we are in a position to set ourselves up as perennial finalists, a top four team most years. If the stars all align, we jag a comp some years. Otherwise, we come up just short. But we should be reaching the levels of week to week excellence that the Storm and Roosters have atm. And we should never require a rebuild ever again. Sure, I'd be happy with Dessie to come here, i believe he could push us close to a comp with the cattle we have now. But I wouldn't for one second give him the power to leave the club as something you hold your nose and try not to step in as you pass by it. Those days should be over.

I'd say we are anything but, we are in the hunt for the 8, and we are upgrading our coach, to me things are moving forward.

Don't forget we are financially invincible and have a talented roster as well.

Chin up.

Yeah we are going nicely now. That was in response to Billy saying if a coach comes here and wins the comp but leaves a burning wreck behind he would be happy.

I wouldnt trade a premiership win for the club sinking back to being a disgrace. We should be aiming for higher than that as a club. And if we get the club operating properly, the odd premiership should follow.

97 and 01 we were not the best team all year. Our opponents in the GF were. Let's keep building this club up to the point we are considered a title chance almost every year.

A coach like Hasler would be the perfect fit then.
4 times nrl coach of the year
2 time RLIF coach of the year.
5GFs 2W 3L
17yrs of coaching with 17yrs of finals games.

I'd be ok with that too, but its too big of a gamble if we don't win a title.

The other problem was that everyone else figured out the Bulldogs style there under him and their form nosedived when it happened. He didn’t have anywhere near the talent he did at Manly but he can coach.

Unfortunately people remember the premierships, which is 0

Des is nothing of that

Imo Des is the closest to Bellamy we will find.
Builds a club from 16s up and wants a team that is all for each other.

Heck his been a NRL coach for 400+ games and only coached 2 sides.
Manly 9yrs
Dogs 7yrs
Add that his won GFs, taken both clubs to GFs, and never missed a finals series as a coach.

What a dud option.

Never really considered Des to be honest, but you've made some compelling points.

Considering Manly were a strong bottom 4 contender he's worked wonders with that squad this season.

I'd be happy to see him here, but on the condition he either shaves his head or grows it out.

Wayne Bennett said you never know which Newcastle was going to get off the bus. Brown obviously had no idea also. Note to new coach. Make sure the right team gets off the bus every week.

Maybe only letting the right team on the bus in the first place and leaving the wrong one kicking stones well away solves that problem?
