Not shocking to see Sharpe take it really, he is an absolute weapon!
McEwin to score as much as he did for a Rookie is very impressive 👏
I am surprised that KPP was above Crossland but that's probably because Crossland was moved around a lot this season.
 
Love him, absolute gun, but he's a really unnatural ball player and kicker I find it hard to believe it's gonna work with him, Brown & Ponga in the spine together.

But I of course hope I'm wrong and it all comes together. I'll be pleasantly surprised.

For every club like the Storm that "plays with three fullbacks", there do seem to be a fair few others like Souths, Canberra, North Queensland, Brisbane, Manly-Warringah, that really seems to struggle if they don't have a player or player(s) with that genuine halfback skillset. Even if that skillset is in the body of a little schlubby fella or an old guy nearing retirement.

If we stick with Ponga/Sharpe/Brown, I suppose we'll find out which basket we're in...

Please don't write off his ball playing in particular just yet. He's still very young, especially from that point of view. To me, it seemed like Ponga was clogging his lanes a lot in the first half of the season. On the occasions Sharpe was able to get clean ball on the left, his service to Lucas and Best some of the better ball they were getting at that point.
 
Yeah cos they want to get into the same parts of the field and do similar things.

Anyway I'm derailing the thread, congrats to Fletcher.
 
Gotta say it's a tough decision what to do, Sharpe. There's no denying FB is his best position. But FB is Kayln's best position, and while we have both, KP gets preference over Sharpe in that position. It was exciting watching Sharpe play six, but you could see he wasn't consistent and doing things that were not just natural to his game. Yes, he's a gun, and he learns quickly, so the argument could be made to play him in the halves.

Pair Sharpe up with a Jamal Forgaty, DCE, Adam Reyolds at seven, and all good Sharpe playing six. But, his half partner will be DB, and it's as clear as day he is not that kind of player. He is a six. And in my opinion, we should not try to change his game. Yes, maybe DB can slowly and naturally develop that into his game, but as of right now, trying to pair the two up is risky. Neither will be playing their natural games.
 
Sharpe at 6 only needs to do what Sharpe does and maybe work on a few other skills over time.

O'Brien said he picked up, when watching video replays in slow motion, that Sharpe put himself into every play when good things happen, and knew what to do by instinct.

Greg Marzhew has 2 try assists in Knights colours - both this year - both to Sharpe - both when he made a line break and had Sharpe running with him and barking in his ear.

In short - put him where he can get involved - and trust him to instinctively know what to do. Good call by O'Brien.

If he can improve his kicking and passing over time - bonus.
 
Sharpe at 6 is fine, but needs a good 7 that can handle the kicking and end of sets.

Sharpe is there for his running game above all else, and his instincts.

What I'm waiting to see is how Sharpe, Ponga and Brown are going to share the ball, who gets the ball if they call for it.

To me it seems like we playing Sharpe in the 6 to use him more as a 1, playing Ponga as a 1 but using him more like you would a 6, and Brown in the 7 to try and be the general.

Seems a strange way to go about it.

Let alone Smith coming in and potentially throwing the cat amongst the pigeons.

Interesting Jsaf polled 6th but took out the DB award.

It’s just that the position these traits serve best is overwhelmingly fullback, that’s all. 6 too, yes, but you want organisational ability, ability to think ahead as much as play in the moment, in that spot, unless you have a very good traditional 7 to basically just centralise the vast majority of the decision-making load on (like a Fogarty, Reynolds, Cleary). You can also get huge benefits from ability like this in the outside backs.

It’s really not as simple as “he’ll just get a bit better at kicking and passing and it’ll be fine”. A Melbourne-like thing is not going to happen with Brown, Ponga and Sharpe. If your belief in it hasn’t been shaken, I just think you don’t understand how good Grant, Munster and Hughes are. Especially Grant.
 
Did Elliot really miss that many games this year (was a long season, its all blurred together), he scored so low on here 😕
