Menzies may play on with Manly in 2009

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - 12:19 PM

Manly veteran Steve Menzies says he's contemplating continuing for a 17th season in the National Rugby League in 2009.

The 34-year-old former Test backrower said he would reassess his feelings about playing on after the 2008 season proper gets underway in mid-March.

It was widely believed that 2008 would be Menzies' swansong after he signed only a one year contract extension midway through last year.

But Menzies said he was still enjoying training and being part of the club, with a decision on playing again likely to be governed by how his form and body hold up this season.

Menzies said he was expecting to play some part in Manly's opening trial match against defending premiers Melbourne in Gosford next month.

always enjoyed beaver, i think he might actually do it as well

Even though he plays for Manly, I still respect him as a player. He's a legend within both Manly and the NRL.

Good on him for going on.

He wont play in 09. Once he gets through this year, then he wouldnt say yes to playing on.

It would be great to see him play on, but i doubt him body will handle it

he might play in 09 mainly because other than last year i cant remember him getting an injury

Most likely, I dont recall a career threatning injury apart from last year. I can only see him retiring for his baby on the way.

No way that he'll continue to play on in my opinion. Wonderful player though and I really do respect him.

As much as I hate Manly I love Menzies as a player. I just hope that if he plays on its to a high standard and not just an average one.

1 of the best Players to play the game, awsome passion for the game :) playing his 16th season this year is impressive

I'd love to see players play until there 34-36 more often

He had an interview today and said depends how he feels, he would like to break the most appearances record though (Needs 26 Games)

I met him today and I gave him some of my own motivational words to keep going on.

Lol, ok, maybe not so much motivational words, but I told him that he's a legend and he should play on. :D

He could get the 26, this year, if he stays injury free, and if Manly make in roads at the finals.
