Matty Johns - Head Coach?

The Johns boys know the merry go round, every time one of there contracts come up, Joey was off to

Fox....NINE countered with dosh....HELLO Matty contract nearing the end now he's a coach....YEAH MATE..🤣:fist::fist::fist:

Live sport is about the only thing that still gets ratings or subscriptions on tv. And the NRL has been the best rating sport in Australia recently. So it will be a major stuff up if PVL doesn’t cash in. Mind you, it wouldn’t be the first time he’s sold it for a song!

I do find the narrative interesting, remember Dave Smith? He played hardball on the tv rights, and got the best deal I think we’ve had, despite constant abuse from News Limited and pretty much being forced to resign to seal the deal.

This time it’s PVL is going to pressure the companies and get us the best deal ever, woo!!!

But anyway, this has again drifted way off topic.
If I recall Dave Smith also wanted to set aside money for a rainy day. Funny how helpful that would have been when the pandemic happened. Todd Greenberg had the same issue with News playing hardball with negotiations.
Dave was unfortunate that he was the guy who replaced Gallop. Who News obviously loved because the price of tv rights for them stayed the same for over a decade Lol. Then there was exaggerations that David was told to pack up his things and leave asap once his replacement was announced lol

Pretty sure it was Smith who also set up the NRL media arm, which then pretty much got shut down after he left. Seemed like a short sighted decision. Legacy media now dying a death and is pretty low quality, there's a gap there which the NRL would have taken advantage of and filled. And given them more options around producing coverage themselves in future tv deals.

Seemed the most forward thinking guy we had in charge since Arthurson and Quayle got the game booming before Super League nearly killed it.

Any consideration it could be Matty for Newcastle but as a halves coach for Dyl Brown and Co? If we are wanting Brown to be our No7 then having genuine halves coaches again would be pretty important for that.

The media arm was still around under Greenburg and they’d built it up quite a bit so that the NRL was producing plenty of its own content. The broadcasters didn’t like that so V’Landys in his wisdom shut it down.

Insane decision when you look at the trajectory traditional media is on. Not to mention why on earth would you want to rely on Fox and 9 to promote your sport?
