Mathews and Ball 2024

Hopwood confirmed starting at 13 and Votano has been brought onto the bench surprisingly. Interesting where Bobcat brings him on.

PSM announce Fletcher Somerville has resigned with Knights for 25 season.

He was looking very good as season went on, scoring a hattrick in final game of season.

Some interesting recruitment for lower grades of late.

I’ll prob miss some of them but from what I’ve seen so far for SG upwards we’ve signed:-

Zach Herdegen - Redcliffe 7
Antonio Okusitino - QLD17’s centre/backrow
Will Hope - backrow/centre Cowboys system/ QLD TEAM 18’s
Brandon Allan - Northern Tigers L Daley - backrow/lock

Rico Elers the other one signed on a 3 yr deal. Maitland boy as quick and smart on his feet like a little Jayden Campbell by looks of footage. 17yr old be HMatts 6 I think.

It's almost not worth worrying about Mathews till you see them play. I'm sure they have all done something to get selected, but we won't know who is going to stand out till after a few games.

Ball will have some very big names backing up - Votano, Hopwood, Hilliar, Canavo, Loza, Latu, Blair, Hagan, O'Doherty, Dorahy, Rosenbaum - I'm not sure if Mat McEwen and the younger Votano are still Matts aged.
We had a very good Ball side in 2024 and most of the big names can back up. I think we lose Malachi Smith, Fletcher Hunt and Jye Linnane and maybe a few other big names.

So rumour is we’ve lost Haami Loza to warriors

Fletcher Hunt has been told he can look elsewhere.

Possibly lost Crosswell who was the 6 in HMatts.

Herdegen isn’t gauranteed to be staying either, may have gotten cold feet and going to a cows instead. Possibly still coming though too.

All this before Blair gets settled in by way.

We have a surplus of running halves, need to discover a local organising 7.

Surprising, but all were imports brought in prior to O’Sullivan (and now Blair) so it’s not unbelievable that the vision may be different now. None are on the brink of first grade in the next couple of years so hard to get too upset until we see how they continue to develop. Disappointed to lose Loza most of all if true.

All I can imagine is they see they have a surplus of running 6’s and badly need organising 7’s and are lining up for that.

Guessing the Knights are putting a lot of trust in Linnane and possibly converting Sharpe to a 6.

I think we should have kept Hunt though and Loza. Not many young 7s at the moment. Interested to see who O'Sullivan and Blair can get.

I like the idea of getting our talented young ones ready for 1st grade, currently we have Gamble who is at least a competent 6 and with a top 7, most needed, we would be very competitive. Linnane and Sharpe being groomed for 6 post or even during Gambles time seems a logical move
