Korbin Sims Representing Queensland

So? This happens all the time. Did you know Peter Sterling was born in Qld but played for NSW. It isn't weird if someone wants to play for another state and Korbin should be able to have the right to play for Qld without being judged.

A lot of things happen all the time, doesn't make it right tho? I do know about Peter and the long list of others, its just a shame that some people would rather win with the enemy than lose fighting with your own, to me its a soft option and says a lot about him.

Korbin may not even get QLD rep honours and I probably think he won't so who even cares.

That's the funny thing of it all. He is way off QLD rep honours judging how he handled FG this year, though he did improve for Fiji. Elias is just using him for the sake of having another whinge. Its the only time you hear from him when he is pushing one of his agendas.

If Qld are allowed to claim Sims it basically means the new rules are meaningless and they can name as many NSW players as they like (or Kiwis or Fijians or Scotsmen - yes, Uate and McManus are both outside the new rules too).
The new rules say you are a product of where you lived before you turned 13 - or before any rep football or contracts with clubs - which means Inglis is from Mackville, Uate is from Fiji, McManus is from Banff is the Scottish Highlands, Karmichael Hunt is from NZ, Sims is from Shellharbour etc etc.
If the new rules are meaningless, NSW should pick the Burgess brothers and SBW.
If the new rules mean something, all players who have already played should be able to stay with the state they have represented, but new guys are under the new rules - no exceptions.

New South Wales State of Origin legends claim Queensland eligibility farce

IT IS only December but a New South Wales State of Origin legend is already furious, claiming a Queensland eligibility "farce".

Boom Newcastle Knights prop Korbin Sims' selection for the Queensland Emerging Origin Squad this week has caused an uproar in enemy territory with claims of a Greg Inglis-like conspiracy.

Sims, 21, does not qualify for Queensland under the revised State of Origin eligibility laws introduced in late 2012.

Those laws require a player to represent the state he was either born in or moved to before his 13th birthday.

Sims moved to Queensland aged 16.

He spent three years in Brisbane before signing with Newcastle. However, he did qualify for the sunshine state under the old laws as he played his first senior football in Queensland.

Sims also represented Queensland as an 18-year-old in 2009 and 2010.

Queensland Rugby League officials are adamant those two representative games qualify him and they are technically right.

The ARL Commission wants players to stop flip-flopping between states and countries from junior to senior representative games.

Whether Sims, born and raised in Gerringong south of Sydney, should be allowed to represent a state he only spent three years in however is open to debate.

Former Blues captain Ben Elias slammed the selection as "rule manipulation" and said it was time his state's officials began "massaging the laws".

"It is a farce," Elias said.

"They manipulate the system and they do it very well and that's why they have won eight series in a row.

"It is disappointing.

"I thought we had an independent Commission to ensure this doesn't happen?

"If they are allowed to keep bullying the rules they will probably win another eight series straight.

"It is ridiculous.

"That kid should be playing for New South Wales."

Sims two older brothers Tariq and Ashton have both declared their affiliation to New South Wales.

He could realistically square off against Tariq in an Origin game in coming years, despite just two years difference in age.

Blues backrower Ryan Hoffman played for Queensland's under 19 side in 2003. He has now played eight Origin games for New South Wales.

A QRL spokesman said they were more than comfortable that Sims was eligible for Queensland.

"Once you represent Queensland you are Queenslander."

Sims is passionate about the Maroons and has repeatedly declared he is a Queenslander.

He fell in love with the state after moving north when his older brothers were signed by the Brisbane Broncos.

"I put my hand up to play for Queensland when I first moved to Brisbane and I am really happy with the path I have chosen and the success I have found as a result," Sims said earlier this year.

"Tariq and I have done what is best for our careers and it has worked out well for us."

No one really seemed to have an issue when he played U/16, U/18 and was chosen, but pulled out of the U/20 Queensland team? The new rules came out what, this year, last year? He's already played for Queensland 2 (should have been 3) times in the past 5 years, let him stay with Queensland,.

You can't tell him he has to play for NSW after already representing QLD 3* times.

It's either a rule or not a rule.
If he can do as he pleases - everyone can play for anyone they like. Gallen can play for Qld if he wants.

No, you missed what I'm trying to say.

Korbin chose and represented Queensland 5 years ago, way before the near rule came around, with being 13 and what not. There should be an add on to the rule saying if you chose your elligance under the old rule and before the rule was made, then that's your state/country, but if you've decided to make it after, then you'll have to follow the new rules.

Um what?

The new rules arent meaningless. First of all if you played U18, U20 or Senior Origin BEFORE the new rules were introduced (Dec 2012), you are still eligible for that state. Korbin played Qld U18s twice before Dec 2012, so hes still eligible for Qld. Also Hunt moved to Qld before age 13, hes eligible under new and old rules. Sims was eligible for Qld under the old rules as well.

You dont know much about the rules obviously, maybe you should read up. The yellow box in the top corner is what youre after. http://www.nrl.com/portals/nrl/RadEditor/Documents/OriginEligibilityExplained.pd

Hes not doing as he pleases. He eligible under the rules. He stays eligible for Qld because he played U18 for them before Dec 2012. THATS A RULE.

It is a rule. If you represented NSW/Qld U18, U20 or Seniors before Dec 2012 youre still eligible for the state you represented even if you arent eligible under the new rules. Billy doesnt have a clue. Is his last name Elias?

Within the rules or not, its still a gutless decision!
Its probably a good thing tho NSW needs players who are willing to fight to represent where they are from, not mercenaries hoping to try and jump in on a wining squad.
