Knights Sign Mason Lino Until 2020

Warriors target

Bulldogs halfback Matt Frawley pumped up his own tyres during the week about an approach from the Knights but he is not their number one halves target.

We’ve been told Nathan Brown has his eyes on Warriors five-eighth Mason Lino despite the skillful playmaker still being under contract next season.

The mail is the Warriors may be prepared to let Lino go if he was happy to leave and could get a two year deal elsewhere so it won’t be a surprise if the Knights make a serious play for him in the next few weeks.

Frawley remains in the picture but there is no guarantee he will get an offer at this stage.

I’d be more keen on Lino than Frawley. Has a bit of spark in attack and can goal kick quite well. Defend still a bit iffy but definitely has the talent.

His style really works well with the Warriors.
I don't know how he would go in a more structured team.
He might go well - he might not.

Not saying Lino is or isn’t a good fit for us but the goal kicking has to start becoming part of our consideration for 2019 in who we pick up and that just may play a part in who we prioritise

Goal kicking is a massive bonus. we are not going to win close games with Sio kicking.

Could Lino cover hooker and play at 14?
Is he good enough to push Watson to 14 and Lino at 6?
Or is he just a reserve grader and injury cover?

Looking at the NSW cup stats, Lino has similar Stats to Hayden Loughrey this year - Loughrey is 5 years younger though - and Tex Hoy has better stats than both and is 6 years younger than Lino.

Much as I am for giving locals an opportunity those, Loughrey and Hoy would lack experience. Loughrey is most likely too old for u20s next season so he could be tried, backup for reserves gaining experience, need at least one half/hooker type to back up 1sts but not sure who that would be.

Not sure if the Warriors would consider letting Lino go early or not considering Shaun Johnson is off contract soon. There are some rumblings and disagreements at Warriors HQ on the topic that Johnson isn't worth keeping anymore and has had more then enough time to assert his mark on the team. And that his performance in Saturdays game was deflating considering the hype hes had since 2011. Will be interesting to follow.

Shaun Johnson's asking price would be too much, that's why the Warriors might considering letting him go. Might be ok if Pearce wasn't here but even then I'd worry what his asking price. At least with Pearce we are paying a guy who is a proven club level performer and a difference to the W-L more then any other player (and even more so then Ponga but only just)

He needs to move on that's for sure. Disappointing in the final & has been disappointing for a few years. He's still a good player in his own right & will be hard to replace, but the Warriors can't be paying such a huge chunk of salary cap for such an uninfluential guy. On the other side, Johnson doesn't look he's ever going to reach his potential at the Warriors, he needs to move to a more successful club & play second fiddle. That would be interesting.

I think they tried fixing that by bringing in Blake Green which kind of worked better compared to the other revolving door of halves they've had. He was basically a poor mans Maloney anyway with better tackling.

Roosters is definately an option, next to someone like Keary or Munster if it happens yeah I can see it.

I don’t think it will ever happen him coming here, or him even leaving the Warriors. Just saying I think he would play really well along side someone like Pearce. It’s nice to dream haha.
