Can i ask why do we only go after Dragons players (Apart from Sims) Knights do realize there are other clubs in the comp right?

Dobson (Super League)
Newton (Panthers)
Mataora (Raiders)
Minto (QLD Cup)
Tuimavave (Warriors)
Sims (Cowboys)
Stockwell (Dragons)*
Packer (Warriors)*

McKinnon, Boyd, Costigan and Scott were the only other Dragons, apart from Smith being a Shark afterwards, which were a part of Wayne's plan bar Costigan who arrived a year earlier.

I've watchced stockwells first grade games pretty closely, he churns big numbers in average minutes, and can also play long minutes, I think dragons are mad for letting him go, and we would be mad not to grab him.

It reminds me when the cows let segeyaro go, I couldn't believe it, you could see he was going to be a great player, I feel the same about Stockwell.

Looking at that list, geez our recruitment is shocking, the only players who've been good are Scott, Smith, Cuthbertson, McKinnon & Boyd.

Read somewhere years ago that the clubs that produce the most players are
1 Warriors - from the whole of NZ
2 Brisbane - from about 2/3rds of queensland
3 Newcastle - from Newcastle, Central coast and the north coast
4 St George - from Wollongong, south coast and a fair chunk of Sydney.

I'd imagine Penrith might be in there now as well.

But anyway - it's no surprize we get a lot of players from NZ, Brisbane and Wollongong - apart from Newcastle - that's where players come from.

Billy Canberra are tipped to do well from the Mounties, better known as Mount Pritchard as the Panthers were not prepared to provide any funding for them.

My info is the Pennies believe Penrith, St Marys and Colyton are a big enough junior recruiting ground.

Typical Rick Stone sorta signing, but nevertheless, he is one I am excited about. Could be a great player with the right coaching and experience needed to develop into a solid front rower.

St George Illawarra Dragons to grant Jack Stockwell a release to join Newcastle Knights

October 22, 2014 - 7:57PM

St George Illawarra's salary cap strain has claimed its first victim with prop Jack Stockwell expected to be granted a release to join Newcastle.

The Dragons' cap is at breaking point with the club about $500,000 over their limit for next season.

Stockwell's release and Brett Morris' impending move to Canterbury – which could be announced by the end of this week – will clear up some much-needed funds for St George Illawarra.

The Dragons are expected to add Russell Packer and George Rose to their front-row stocks for next season.

Stockwell, who has played 35 games since making his NRL debut in 2012, re-signed with the club in December until 2017.

Dragons chief executive Peter Doust trumpeted Stockwell's re-signing at the time.

"Jack has been a player we identified a number of years ago who we see as a key part of our future," Doust said at the time.

Manly had also expressed an interest in signing the former Junior Kangaroo.

Will be a solid signing in my opinion. Definitely will make Mataora and Vai Vai step up their game if they want the front row spots. With Stockwell in the squad it's likely that only 2/3 will play FG. As much as people refuse to believe it. Stone got the best out of nuffie signings like Antonio Kaufusi, Steve Southern and guys like that. If he could get more out of Kaufusi than Bennett could Mason. I'm confident that he can get these young props firing and performing well in first grade.

We probably have all bases covered now.
But if there is still money kicking around, i'd spend it all on the biggest name halfback we could find.

kelly would of been interesting, either way don't see any other signings(merrin is way outta our reach and no one else really available) hopefully re-signing the mata's and then on with the season.

Stockwell would be a really underrated signing which is weird because he's always been highly rated. He's made most of the rep junior/reserve sides, he was signed long term with the promise he showed in the 20s and reserves, Dragons seem to have put alot of effort into developing him for the future. I think he's had some injuries this year but he's started plenty of games at prop and is capable of carrying defenders through the line. I'd like to see him put on a few more kilos though, he could be a great signing. Dragons fans are pretty dirty that they're letting him go a few years early, it looks like they really rate him as a prospect. This signing won't excite fans now but there's a good chance it will in the next year or 2.

Couldn't have said it any better... he has a lot of potential and should develop in to a really good front rower. There's not too many 22 year old props that are better.

I'd be disappointed if I was a Dragon's fan as well. I can't believe they're letting him go for Packer and Rose... It would be similar to us letting someone like Korbin go.

I think he needs to bulk up a bit, but when he does I reckon he'll develop into a good player. He's young and still adjusting to the NRL Good signing.

Edit: Junior11 nailed it.
