Knights possible targets for 2020

If we had a coach who can develop young players, we have never had more talent - Hoy, Fermor, Jones, Andrews, Momoisea, Randall, Crossland, Croker, Huth - all could debut in round 1 next year if they had a great off season under a coach who is good at developing young players.

This is in no way a defence of Brown but one thing we don’t want here is a coach blaming culture.

Titans???

Coaches have strengths and weaknesses - just like everyone else.
Brown has had dozens of talented young players to work with and hardly any have improved.
Even he has given up on developing young players and this year only signed guys in their mid 20s with firstgrade experience.
If next year is about developing a squad of rookies, Brown tried to do that 2 years ago and got a wooden spoon.

We have a few players of contract, Buhrer, Griffin, Hunt, Jones, SKD, Ross (gone), Stone (gone), Woolford and Ramien (gone). I would keep Hunt, SKD and possibly Jones meaning we are down 6-7.
We have players being discussed as moving on, Ese’ese, Guerra, Levi and possibly Gavet all with one year to run on contract.
That’s 9-11 players so even if we signed our development players, 5, along with Brailey signed we will need 3-5 players to fill our squad along with further 5 development players from u20’s.
If we concentrate on purchasing the players we need, 5/8, 2nd row and centre which should be affordable with those leaving
our team would still be strong for 2020.
Of course the team needs to develop more and not be so predictable, we don’t necessarily need a new coach just a new approach.

Well put, Frank.

With the exception of Ponga, Edrick, SKD and Hunt the back line has been pretty poor the last couple of seasons. I'm not overly confident we'll see consistent performances from Moga, and if we lose SKD and/or on top Ramien it doesn't look all that good going into next year.

Maybe an offseason scouting around Fiji or PNG is in order?

Ramien is still under contract we should definitely be looking at some sort of trade deal with another club.

There's little doubt Ramien will be snapped up, probably on a richer contract than he is on already.

Given we've told him he's free to go I don't know how much we'd be able to leverage a swap.

Maybe Toohey has some more intel...

I think there is potentially value at the raiders. George Williams has signed with them.

Would Wighton, Sezer or Williams be worth a look at 5/8?

If we land O'Brien as coach, I'd love to see us try and nab Brodie Croft. He and Pearce could be lethal in the halves. O'Brien and Croft obviously have their time at Storm together so it could be a good fit.

Croft's defence is about as good as Lino's, it's why Storm are questioning wether they should play him or move Hughes into the halves.

The new coach might think about seeing if anyone wants Pearce for the money we are paying him.

A couple of young 500k halves might be a better idea than an ageing million dollar man.

Hahaha we have had that culture for years decades even ...
We have always had he complete opposite.
No other club would have stood by Brown for years with his terrible less than 25% win record - and every coach in Knights history has had more than a fair go. Most went a year or two past when any other club would have axed them.

They would if they were in the position we were in when he came here .

Brown set out his agenda from the start, and there would have been constant communication through those first three years. He was never going to be judged on his win/loss ratio during that time. This is the first year he has had a squad that let his game day tactics be judged evenly. He came up short this year, but we owe him a lot for what he was prepared to do over those first three long years.
