Round 14 injury update: Pearce, Ross, Lamb

Newcastle Knights
Tue 5 Jun 2018, 01:22 PM

Physical Performance Manager, Tony Ayoub, has provided an update on the troops occupying the injured list.

In a boost for the nib Newcastle Knights, Brock Lamb is poised to exit the casualty ward.

The halfback has been sidelined for a number of weeks with a fractured cheekbone but is ready to return to the field and he's not alone.

Veteran Chris Heighington is on track to face the Roosters despite picking up a concussion last week.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Pearce has ramped up his training in a bid to return from a torn pectoral ahead of schedule.

"He's seven weeks post-surgery and doing really well," Ayoub told newcastleknights.com.au of Pearce.

"We've already got him in the gym. He's doing some light stuff.

"If you don't keep your eye on him, he's doing more than he needs to do but that's a positive thing.

"We've got him out on the field with the kickers and he's starting to pass the ball, things are certainly looking up for him.

"We're on track for that 12 to 14-week mark but you never know with Mitch, he might surprise us and come back a little earlier."

Injured players and expected return dates:

Tautau Moga (ACL, Season)

Jacob Saifiti (Shoulder, Round 24)

Mitchell Pearce (Pectoral, Round 18-21)

Jack Johns (Knee, Round 16-17)

Nathan Ross (Groin, Round 15-16)

Sam Stone (Shoulder, Round 14-15)

Brock Lamb (Cheekbone, Round 14)

Chris Heighington (Concussion, Round 14)

Rd 15 injury update: Bitter sweet news for Buhrer, Ross delayed

Newcastle Knights
Wed 13 Jun 2018, 01:59 PM

Jamie Buhrer has received some positive news with scans this week clearing him of a ruptured ACL.

The nib Newcastle Knights co-captain limped from the field last Saturday after suffering some minor damage to the ligaments of his knee but it is not season ending.

The 28-year-old suffered a meniscal tear which required surgery on Tuesday evening.

Buhrer is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

This means the versatile backrower could be back on the field as soon as Round 19 when the Knights host the Gold Coast at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Meanwhile, the return of centre Nathan Ross has been delayed.

Ross is sidelined with a groin issue which is taking longer than expected to respond to treatment.

The 29-year-old is hopeful of being made available for selection next week.

Finally, Daniel Saifiti is on the road to recovery from a foot injury (Lisfranc) suffered in Round 13's win over Parramatta.

"Halfway through the first half, my foot got caught in an awkward position," Saifiti explained.

"There was a bit of a strain through one of the ligaments. Luckily I don't need surgery.

"Fingers crossed for a quick recovery and back in four or five weeks."

Injured players and expected return dates:

Tautau Moga (ACL, Season)

Jacob Saifiti (Shoulder, Round 24)

Jamie Buhrer (Knee, Round 19-21)

Mitchell Pearce (Pectoral, Round 18-19)

Daniel Saifiti (Foot, Round 18-20)

Nathan Ross (Groin, Round 16-18)

That is really good news for Jamie....He might be getting closer to the back end of his career but I would hate for that to have been a career ending injury at this point for him.

So say Pearce returns round 19. And we get 1 win and the bye until then. We will be on 16 points.

From there we play.
Cowboys away - They have been dire this season, and with Pearce we may get the win.
Tigers at home - If we are any chance of finals we must win this
Warriors away - A tough task
Panthers away - Another tough one
Sharks away - ....
Dragons at home - They will be looking to build for finals and will be very tough to beat

I'd put us at 20 points at the end of the season I would guess. Maybe 22.

That would see us finish around 12th. Which all in all would not be a bad year. Big step forward over previous years, considering Pearce out for lengthy time. If we have Pearce all year we probably scrape in to the 8.

Look to next year for our finals appearance.

After storm I would expect us to win 2/3 of the next 3 games 3 would be amazing and set us up for a push for top 10 they are saying Pearce back for eels I think we beat the dogs but when I think we will win we lose so who ****ing knows hahah

Newcastle backrower Lachlan Fitzgibbon is facing a one-match ban for a grade two dangerous contact charge.

The incident involved Melbourne prop Tim Glasby and occurred in the 65th minute of Sunday's loss.

Fitzgibbon will miss one match if he pleads guilty.

Should the 24-year-old faces a possible two-game suspension should he fight the charge and lose.

Well that's certainly a way to introduce yourself to a future teammate

Newcastle second-rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon will challenge the grading of his grade two dangerous contact charge at the judiciary on Tuesday night.

Fitzgibbon was facing a one-match ban for a grade two dangerous contact charge from a tackle on Melbourne prop Tim Glasby, but could be free to play in round 16 with 75 carryover points if he successfully has the charge downgraded.

Rep Round injury update: Ross return, Lillyman hiccup

Newcastle Knights
Mon 18 Jun 2018, 03:16 PM

Nathan Ross is on track to return from injury as soon as next week.

The nib Newcastle Knights centre has been sidelined for several weeks with a groin injury but Physical Performance Manager, Tony Ayoub believes Ross is a chance to return against Canterbury-Bankstown in Round 16.

"In the last week or so, he's worked really hard with the physios," Ayoub said.

"He's made some real good progress. We had him running the other day and it was his call and he upped the ante with his speed and the volume and we got a fair bit out of him.

"I was a bit surprised but the upside of that is he didn't flare up the next day.

"... if he continues to improve and tick the boxes, we might get him back for next week."

Veteran forward Jacob Lillyman was a late scratching from last week's loss to Melbourne due to an abdominal strain.

The injury was a byproduct of a groin complaint he'd been managing but it's nothing which will sideline him long-term.

"He's had a little bit of a groin issue over the last few weeks," Ayoub explained.

"We'd been managing that and unfortunately it loads up other areas. He did a slight abdominal strain on the left-hand side."

Injured players and expected return dates:

Tautau Moga (ACL, Season)

Jacob Saifiti (Shoulder, Round 24)

Jamie Buhrer (Knee, Round 19-21)

Mitchell Pearce (Pectoral, Round 18-19)

Daniel Saifiti (Foot, Round 18-20)

Nathan Ross (Groin, Round 16)

Jacob Lillyman (Abdominal strain, Round 16)

Par for the course mozza, par for the course.

We see Cleary's crusher and Klemmer's swinging arm no punishment, McGuire and company merely fined!

Surprise, surprise, Fitzie has been rubbed put for 2 matches.
