I don't know if you had him in your 17 mate, but I know most of us did & it sounded like Brown did with the money he offered, the way he spoke about Tapine & how the young guys aren't gonna improve unless they're given a chance.
He was there because we were trying to develop him. We all saw the potential that he had. Now there's no point developing him so we might as well just put someone better in.

He is a very good prospect who might become a rep standard player, but Canberra have decided to give him rep standard money before he has shown he is worth it.

The only real doubt I have about him is that I've never seen him get passionate about winning. Compare him to Kade Snowden, who had similar gifts and talents in the juniors. Kade fired up and won a heap of games for the Knights and even stood out for NSW and Australia. In the juniors Tapine had some great games, but they were all against weak sides who he easily bullied out of matches. Kade looked better the better the opposition was, with his best games against SBW.

Very true mate, but he wasn't ready for a full season of first grade and was one of the many contenders.

While he's currently only a fringe first grader, I don't think there's any doubt he'd have been a mainstay in our top 17 and possibly a key forward for us later in the season.

I don't understand how people talk about him like he was a future superstar, same as sione and he has turned out a dud.

I wouldn't be going as far as saying sione is a dud, he has shone glimpses of good football, not consistent but not a dud.
Tapine on the other hand hasn't done anything amazing in first grade therefore saying he was a future superstar is a bit ridiculous. Tapine could be anything because realistically, we haven't seen him in first grade.

Yes that's what I'm saying.

He just doesn't look anything special, we let the better of the brothers leave and go to the saints.

What I would do to have him back.

That's what maturing into an adult, physically & mentally while getting consistent NRL game time will do, Pete is just starting to reach that point. I can understand people thinking Sione will never be anything special, he hasn't done a whole lot in first-grade, but dud is bit harsh. I'm keen to see him grow into his body, get more game smart with continuous game time & see where he's at after 50 or so games. If he's still getting run over & not knocking over guys himself then he is probably a dud.

You may remember a couple of years back Jennings getting picked for SOO from NSW cup, everyone has an opinion on a players ability, the only person who is going to decide that is the coach, not the RLPA.

Yes I do remember. And so what? The current collective bargaining agreement didn't exist then. If it did, and Jennings wanted to push it, he could have made a strong case like Tapine is making.

If Joe does not axe this ****er of a manager, he is a tosser.

Why would you get rid of a manager who has helped secure you a $500,000 a year deal? Because Knights fans are upset? I don't follow.

It's good to see the club and Gidley for once standing firm, for now anyway.

I'd much rather them make a stand on something useful, rather than p*ssing into the wind like they are now. They don't have a legal leg to stand on and they're damaging their ability to recruit players in the future. All over a player nearly everyone is telling me isn't in the top 17. Ridiculous.

All your Matautia's are nothing special.
They have been massively overrated.
All NRL squads have these sort of players.
They all have a bit of size and bit of speed that did well against poor defense in the juniors.

Comparing a SOO player to someone that hasnt even had a season. Yep.

You're missing the point. The collective bargaining agreement isn't you have to pick SOO players. It is you have to pick it's best 17 healthy players.

Lets say you're right. Tapine isn't in the top 17. Why then make a fuss? If he's no good at the Knights he isn't going to be any good anywhere else. If he isn't a part of the Knights plans why make such a fuss?

Money and Salary cap would be the reason for all the fuss wouldn't it?

It is easy for Tapine...if the Raiders pay for his contract with the Knights, then pay Tapine's wage at Canberra, they can have him...
If they don't want to pay, he plays for Newcastle the same way any other player would when signing for another club.
Tapine will give 100%, if not, he is dropped...and plays NSW Cup or in the real NRL until end of season.
No fuss..
It is a business...a job...the club is a passion for the fans...the game is the passion for the players...there is no such thing as playing for a club anymore... And that is ok...this poor young bloke did not ask for this fuss, he is just securing his future...
