Hastings just isn't that much better than what already have to be throwing $$$ at him.
Clune with two legs instead of one isn't that much worse really.

Yeah obviously, my point is I just don't think he is that much an upgrade on Clune for example so not worth throwing big cash at.

So even with a little upgrade he wouldn't be on big cash for a half.
Anyway, I don't know he is the answer. But if we are looking at throwing 1mil per season at a half, who is the target for that? Are they available and are they likley to come to Newcastle?
My opinion is we won't be getting a top of the line half. We won't be able to attract one here. So, we are going to need to go with a next tier half.
Given we are not likely to attract a Cleary level half, we need to pair a half with a 5/8 that compliment eachother and use the tools we have effectively.
That means good kicking game, smart ball playing and sharp end of tackle set finishes. That added to a solid work ethic from the team and our pack hungry to drive the team forward should be a good solid NRL setup.
Simples. But we are the Knights and just turning up each week with a good mindsent determined to win is beyond us.

So do I. He has an instinctive ability to angle his running and time his passes not just to produce clean breaks, but to play his receivers over the advantage line, whether it’s by isolating them into a good 1-on-1 matchup, or getting them onto a defender’s weak shoulder. A lot of his best work in attack over the past couple of years has been on-ball like this, going play on play to first get a Saifiti or another big forward a quick play the ball, before following it up by attacking say a prop who’s been forced to defend 2-in in the scramble to reset the line after an ineffective tackle. Hell, a lot of his best work this year has been attacking out of dummy half as you’ll often see from Ben Hunt.
Personally I think the more he gets his hands on the ball and takes ownership of steering the team around, the better off we’ll be. The only real question mark for me is over his long kicking game, but we already have a half with a big boot who seems to prefer a complimentary rather than organisational role at the club…

I don't get the money argument. Star halves are probably the highest paid players in the game.
