How much of our cap are we actually allowed to spend?

Do we have any firm figures on how much we are allowed to spend?

I know earlier Gidley was approaching NRL for permission to use entire cap.

When you consider we have a lack of third parties and than we aren't allowed to use our entire cap.

Not hard to see why we are screwed.

Also Titans were in the same position as us with the NRL probably throwing at a lot more at them than us, are they being penalized as well?

Or is it just the fact the NRL knows Knights will always have a solid following and we can be their whipping boys to show other clubs just how much they can be stuffed up if they don't toe the line?

Would love to know are we paying back $500k a year? A million?

I am not a member but if I was a paying one I'd demand answers and if none were forthcoming I'd boycott games until the NRL stops stamping all over us.

A journo on Foxtel in the last month or so Lord was saying $4.5million had been deducted from our 2015 and 2016 caps, and in 2017 we would be able to spend the entire $7m or hatever it is. Looking for the articale and can't find it now. I have asjed Midley this question repeatedly to be met by silence. I think our NRL appointed muppets just nod and go along with whatever the NRL dictate. If this reported $4.5m was the total indebtedness and it has been repaid, why sell the Club for ten to twenty mill.

I can't see us getting any of that. We, theTitans, Saints and Tigers were all in the same boat. A few months ago some 'saviou, owner of WIN TV, came to the Saints rexcue paying out their indebtedness and becoming a 50% shareholder.

Regarding paying member, which I have been since year dot, if the NRL don't do the right thing they have got all they are going to get out of me.

David Wilson: Given our roster is nowhere near the level of the other NRL teams, is the NRL prioritising making the balance sheet look better for a potential new owner? Exactly how much of the salary cap have we used this year?

Matt Gidley: We will spend our entire salary cap this season. Our issue in the short term is that we have a significant amount of our salary cap unavailable for selection due to injuries.

I think the real problem is a third of the cap is perma injured (Mullen, Snowden, Chanel) or in nsw cup (aku, Stockwell).

These are problems the Titans don't have. Also, DCE did them a giant favour by reneging, then we did them another one by taking hodko.

I honestly think we have plenty to spend,
1.5+mil

The problem for the club will be getting good players without having to play 150k extra then what said player would really be worth.

We have money to spend, and once we get a new owner we should also have TPAs as well.
It makes a lot of sense for us to not announce anything big till the new owner can spruik up a whole new era for the club.

I expect all sorts of things will be announced just after the new owner is known. Big name signings. New coaches, New trainers. New CEO. Probably some news on the high performance precinct.
There is no point for the club to give us much good news now. It will have a lot more impact in the off season.

What I read originally was the Nrl invested $5 million in the Knights to keep us going and took over ownership ...If that's right ...Then the owners ( the NRL) would not have to tell members anything and the board would have to do what the owners told them to do and it wont be any different with a new owner ...

Also if we (the knights) Have Paid back that debt and will now be able to use the whole cap then IMO this board has done a wonderful job , to pay that money back and keep a team on the field... That's great...

Just wondering if The Knights pay the money back to the NRL will the ownership then revert back to the Members ...

No it wont mate,

Those days are gone and for good reason.

The nrl will own us until they get what they want out of it, which is roughly 12mil from a buyer thats willing to follow the instructions that the NRL put forward in the sale.

Pretty much they want someone to buy and blow money with the nrl formats to be continued.

Seems like a great bargain lol.

The king of optimism

Why for good reason , if the current board has made enough money in 2 yrs to pay the debt and keep the club going and put a team on the field why couldnt they do the same without the debt hanging over they're head .
If we are allowed to use the whole cap next year then we owe them nothing and although they are saying there are people wanting to buy us , in my experience rich people stay rich by not investing in things that will cost them money and even if they did people wanting to be owners don't like CONDITIONS.... You never know member ownership may yet be the way to go ....

They havent made enough money, they sacrificed 1/3 of our cap to pay the debt back!!
They also run at a loss of 1mil.

The knights run by the members never made a profit in any year!

The juniors that we have right now is due to Tinkler as much as i hate to pat the guy on the back.

But right now without them good bunch, we wouldnt be fielding a team.

Heard that Corey Payne has just resigned as CEO at Penrith, we should pick him up when Mids steps Down,

Mate the board said that they would run.. even.. this year and make a profit next season and if they made enough money to run the club put a team on the field and pay the debt off they did make enough and now the debt is payed next year they will use the whole cap run the club and put a team on the field .....All sounds promising to me ....But of course not to you hey ....

Revealed: The full extent of the Knights salary cap woes

[FONT=&amp]WITH the Newcastle Knights on the verge of securing a second consecutive wooden spoon, here are the sobering statistics that reveal the full extent of the Knights salary cap nightmare and the club’s mismanagement of the cap since the end of Wayne Bennett’s coaching rein in 2014.

Robbie Rochow’s decision to quit the club at the end of this season to join South Sydney will bring the number of players who have left after playing in the NRL for the Knights over the past three seasons to 27.

Jeremy Smith’s retirement in three weeks’ time will make that 28.

Incredibly, over that same period, just 11 players from other clubs have been signed with two of them — Tariq Sims and Carlos Tuimavave — already gone.

Three of the nine left — Mitch Barnett, Brendan Elliot and Peter Mata’utia — were signed by current coach Nathan Brown mid-season on cheap deals.

So how is it possible that so many players, several on huge salaries, have left without being replaced and where has all that salary cap money gone?

It’s the question that has been gnawing away at angry and frustrated Knights’ fans and is why so many young local juniors have had to be promoted before their time by Brown to fill the void.

The answer?

The money has been eaten up by inflated salaries, disastrous back-ended deals, hefty upgrades and a host of questionable recruitment decisions.

The bottom line is there has been a complete lack of forward planning not helped by the turnover of coaches.

The finger has been pointed at Bennett and his quick fix quest for a premiership.

When he departed the club at the end of 2014, the cap was already under severe pressure.

A total of 12 players left at the same time as Bennett and the only new signings to play in the NRL under Rick Stone in 2015 were Tariq Sims, Jack Stockwell and Carlos Tuimavave.

But while the cap was already a mess, it has been made worse by poor recruitment decisions since then.

Kade Snowden was signed to a new two year deal by Stone despite serious concerns over fitness.

Trent Hodkinson was brought in at $600,000 a season with the club then forced to pay a further $200,000 to Tyrone Roberts to move him on to the Titans.

Stockwell was not an established NRL prop when he signed but was given a two year deal with next year worth $350,000.

You can’t help but just shake your head at those sorts of numbers and the money that some other players are being paid.

The upshot is Brown and head of football Darren Mooney are left to try and fix the mess.

But despite having a roster dominated by kids, he is still left with only pocket money to play with in 2017 unless Snowden’s quest for medical retirement is rubber-stamped by the NRL and the likes of Stockwell and Akuila Uate find new clubs.

It’s a self-inflicted disaster with a lot more pain to come yet.
