Thats what the nsw and Aust selectors should be taking note of. The 4 players he just shrugged off to score his 3rd try.. Like the commentator just said; faultless all night and plenty of yards for his tiring forward pack...

Got a bit of luck but was well finished off by Blanch for Ireland.

All well and good shrugging off 4 guys to score. But they won't be forgetting the try where he got walked over by the one guy from a metre out. Defence is half the game, you do realise that?

Bit easy there for Hasson and well deserved. I doubt Korbin would be happy with his attempted tackle though.

Yep, but like I said; that try was the inside mans fault.. Uate' job is to stay with his winger.. He only had to come in to get involved in the tackle because the inside man was lazy...
 
Uate only averages 0.9 missed tackles a game in the NRL, One of the better wingers in that department actually...

He makes bad reads sometimes coming in when he should stay out or vice-versa but no more than most other wingers...

His defence isn't as bad as people make it out to be...

So from 1m out you just rely on staying 1 on 1 with your man, if that's the case you are going to have a lot of tries scored against you. 10m out then yea you hold off and stay on your man but not 1m out.

Got to give a bit of credit to the Irish player to be fair.. He did a good job catching the defence out.
 
Am I the only one that seen Uate slip and do the splits causing him to miss the tackle on the Irish try scorer ? How did Kevin get man of the match someone asked. Let us all know if you get an answer.
 
Fiji open their World Cup campaign with a 32 -14 win over Ireland

WINGER Akuila Uate scored three tries and had another disallowed as Fiji ran over Ireland 32-14 in the Rugby League World Cup at its home away from home on Monday.

Rochdale was the town where the first Fijians came to play league in England in 1961, and with backing from most of the sellout crowd of 8,800 in Spotland Stadium, the 2013 squad treated them to six tries and some bone-rattling defense.

The Irish scored two tries in the last three minutes when the result was already beyond doubt, but they were generally overmatched.

The result put Fiji, a semifinalist in 2008, on course for the quarterfinals. The top three from Group A, which includes Australia and England, advance.

Australia's and England's coaches, Tim Sheens and Steve McNamara, were in the stands, and they would have been impressed, especially Sheens with his former Kangaroo wing, Uate.

Uate opened and closed Fiji's scoring. He dragged two Irishmen over the line with him in the ninth minute, took another setup pass from fullback Kevin Naiqama for his second in the 64th, and bulldozed through four Irishmen for his third in the 73rd.

Naiqama scored the second try in the 13th after James Storer's sliced chip rebounded off an Irishman as Fiji appeared to be skipping away at 10-0.

But Fiji then had two tries disallowed on review, and only conceded its first points after six minutes of sustained Irish pressure. Second-rower Tyrone McCarthy finally broke through from dummy half.

But even with secondrower Eloni Vunakece yellow-carded for persistent fouls, Fiji still scored, adding a 20-meter penalty by Waisale Ligani Naiqama to take a 12-4 lead into halftime.

Rain began during the interval but the Fijians brushed that off, too.

The Irish dropped a high kick, standoff Alipate Noilea scooped it up, spun out of a tackle and offloaded with a reverse flick for Tariq Sims to score.

Uate crossed for his second, then Korbin Sims jumped higher than his brother Tariq to catch and score off a pinpoint high kick by Noilea from near halfway.

Uate finished off his hat trick, and Ireland finished with tries to winger Damien Blanch and James Hasson.

Ireland next plays Saturday against England, which is coming off a loss to Australia.

England will be without Sam Burgess after he received a one-match ban for a high tackle last weekend which left Australia secondrower Sam Thaiday concussed.

On Tuesday, Tonga plays Scotland.

Not that it bothered Me but I thought in today's political correct society there might have been some reaction to the "the Irish are good at dodging bullets" comment made by 1 of the commentators.

Kev threw the last pass for 2 of Uate's tries.
This is the sort of thing he has been doing in NSW cup all year for Chanel Mataútia. Kev has developed the vision to see when his winger has an overlap and the pass to get him the ball. He can also draw and pass to put outside backs through gaps.
He had a poor day with his hands, possibly due to rain and a slippery ball, but his playmaking skills as a fullback were there to see.
 
Great to see all the current Knights players getting tries for Fiji. I still hate that I missed the second half.
 
I thought Naiqama was great, he had about a hundred try assists. Ridiculous to blame Uate for Bukuya's missed tackle in the first half.
