Ex-Knights Watch

I think you should be proud of having a go CBM. Lots of guys happy to sit on the sidelines but you actually participated.

Two ex Newcastle hookers on the Raiders teamsheet today, Starling starting and Zac Woolford on the bench. Be interesting to see how much Gametime he gets and how he goes.

Local junior Grant Anderson has been named to make his NRL debut for the Melbourne Storm in the centres following Xavier Coates dropping out after his injury in Origin.

Grant was one of our best when we won the minor premiership in Flegg a few years ago. He kept Hoy out of the fullback spot, forcing Hoy to play wing or centre when he wasn't playing reserve grade. His brother, Gary Anderson, was pretty good too, but too short to be an NRL winger I think, although he was great for Maitland when they won the Presidents cup in 2020.
Anyway, good on Grant, but he's a much better fullback than winger.

Yeah I'm not surprised he's thrived in the Melbourne system, not the most naturally talented player getting around but he's known to be an extremely hard worker.

Gary isn't Grant's brother, but I do agree agree he lacks the size to be an NRL outside back, think he may have played QCup at some point as well. Grant does have a couple of brothers playing in the local comp for Central, Cameron and Kain - Cameron has been a very good player in the local comp for a few years now and Kain is a lot younger but has played real NRL.

Starford To'a and Tevita Pangai have been named in the 25 man Tonga squad to play NZ.
Starford is a reasonable chance of playing because they have also named Kotoni Staggs and Daniel Tupou, who will take the big bucks to play for NSW instead.

Both have already said they are picking Tonga over origin.

Interesting story about Canterbury turning their form around after rookie Jacob Kiraz got stuck into them in a team meeting about them being "comfortable" with losing.
Jacob wasn't as good as Dylan Lucas, Chris Vea'ila or Mac Baker IMO, but you could never say he didn't give it everything. Guy always has a look on his face like he is giving everything.
I can imagine him ripping all his team mates a new one for not trying.
The other thing in the article is it says Kiraz turned his back on a Knights top 30 spot.
I wonder if he thought our attitude stunk too.

False story. Kiraz and Corey Allan both said it isn’t true.

If he thought the knights attitude stunk I dont see why he would think the reigning spooners attitude would be better, what is more likely is he saw a more clear path to first grade at the dogs.

Wasn't he a Bulldogs junior ?
Yes he was, among other NRL teams:

* 2015 Bulldogs under 15's Summer development squad
* 2018 Bulldogs under 17's Winter development squad
* late 2018 Dragons SG Ball train-on squad
* 2019 Made the Lebanon RLWC 9's squad and played 1 game before being disqualified (https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/wo...9/news-story/3786f9dd0dd1eefb768d6b279d3ef853)
* 2020 North Queensland Cowboys (3 yr contract)....then COVID hit
* 2021 Knights Development Contract
* 2022 Signed with Bulldogs after not being able to breakthrough for an NRL debut at the Knights

...and the rest is (current) history:)
