English Recruits Watch

We may get Pryce early but all speculation at this point…

Quote from Huddersfield Giants coach.

"Hopefully we can get Jake back fit for the start of the season but if not, we've got young Will Pryce there who will be competing for a spot. If he performs, he'll keep his place in the team."

I’d say Pryce will probably have at least a month to cement his spot in the first team, will be a good test and hopefully he performs well enough to earn it so we can track his progress throughout the season.

Thanks for sharing. A bit worrying that we are pinning our hopes on a guy playing FG who isn’t a shoe-in for the Giants team yet.

Nearly sounds like faith in our coach to identify, recruit and develop young talent???

Haven't heard that for a while haha.
I mean lots of people have regressed under aob but others have improved. Croker, young, Thompson, Barnett arguable did, I think brailey has as well. So he can’t be all bad, but maybe cant motivate all personalities

I think with that new experienced assistant coach there’ll be a different experienced voice to maybe reach those other people. And I hope that will Hastings, Gamble, hetherington the squad itself will find some intrinsic motivation

Watching that, one of the kids biggest strengths would have to be standing in the tackle and getting an offload away, hopefully we can have people ready for it and not standing back in the line waiting for the next ptb.

Hastings is very alive to offloads and good at distributing the ball for second phase play. You’ll note how often he was the one following him up above when they played together for Wigan.

Pryce, todays Tele, says his preferred position is 5/8, wants to be the best possible so now what.
Do we continue with the Miller to f/b and Ponga to 5/8 and even if we do are we back to Ponga f/b in 2024
Looks like we will have plenty of options both spine and back line

Having watched him a bit now, I think he’s a fullback. I don’t think his decision-making and organisational abilities are anywhere where they need to be to play half, he’s looked way better at fullback being brought onto the ball as a opportunistic/finishing touch kind of attacking player. Gets compared to Wighton a lot but I see him as more of an ALDI Latrell (right down to the disciplinary issues & passages in games where he looks disinterested).

I’ll add that I’m a little lukewarm on Pryce at this point. Strikes me as a bit of an ego. He’s got a lot of competition to actually get a start for Huddersfield next year and whether he forces his way in might tell us a lot about him.

Bailey has impressed me a lot more from what I’ve seen, higher work rate, always buzzing around in support, seems harder to tackle despite being smaller. the little ****er just can’t stay fit unfortunately.

Pryce will get to the NRL and realise he probably isn't equipped to play 5/8th as well as he could slot into fullback.

Itll figure itself out in preseason, especially considering the form Ponga is likely to show in 23'. Pryce will need to unseat him.

Have to agree. He’s not as explosive compared to what KPP can do. But he has heaps to learn. He won’t have the play making ability of Ponga. Also agree with Hodgo. Really hope he remains injury free. Even if we get Miller I truly hope Hodgo gets a big break with us.
