Just over a week ago Daniel Abraham was celebrating Old Boys Day with his former Club but on Sunday afternoon, the premiership winning second rower returned to red and blue to help the Newcastle Knight’s NSW Cup team to a 28-26 victory over the North Sydney Bears.

Abraham who notched up 100 games for the Knights during his seven-year stint at the Club, said he was excited to be given the chance to help the team out during Sunday’s qualifying final.

“Last weekend I was having a beer with all the Old Boys and when I got the call from Rip (Taylor) on Monday, I couldn’t wait to be part of the side,” he told newcastleknights.com.au after the game.

“Who wouldn’t want to be part of a side heading in to the semi's and especially with the calibre of blokes in this side?

“It has been a really good week and I have enjoyed giving the boys a hand.

“It was a quick game and the Bears had a lot of ball in the second half.

“The quality of the opposition was a bit better than I am used to.”

Abraham started on the bench for the Knights during Sunday’s win and said if Taylor needs him for their semi-final in a couple of weeks time, then he would be happy to help out.

“I have been lucky to be called in to a squad playing a major semi,” he said.

“My luck has come off the fact that a couple of boys have missed out through not being eligible or injuries, which are unfortunately part of the game.

“If Rip needs me again then I have two weeks to get myself in shape.

“But if the boys who are injured are right for that game then they have put in the hard yards and deserve their spot and I will step aside.”

After leaving the Knights, Abraham spent a year with the North Queensland Cowboys before joining the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs, who he has played for during the past four years.

“Kurri is a good Club,” the 31-year-old said.

“They have done a lot for me and helped set me up with jobs.

“It doesn’t matter what level you play at the mateship and competitiveness never changes.”

The Knights now have a week off and will play their semi final on Sunday 23 at Leichhardt Oval, opposition and time TBC.

I won't lie, it was pretty cool to see Abraham back in the red and blue, and he played pretty damn well.

With our current captain Naiqama moving on next season, and a lot of experience being lost ... I reckon we should invite him to captain our NSW Cup side next season.
