Chad Redman, Marvyn Filipo and Toka Likiliki

So Marvin 1 year, Redman ? year(s) and Toka gone... Shame he has potential

Imagine if Boyd didn't leave, the amount of players we couldn't resign or new players we wouldn't be able to chase!

One players contract can make a huge difference to a team

Need something else there I guess unless stone is going to promote the young guys... gids will play fullback for sure, we the young kids taking on mcmanus and uate for wing spots

should be an interesting year :)
 
I reckon Roberts may turn into a gun no 7 under the Stone style. If the team plays well around him. Will be interesting to see which players improve under the change

I don't know the plan for Marvin, but he is a very under rated player.
I don't think I realised how good he is till he played for Wyong against us. At the time Tonga Likiliki was still seen as the next big thing, and Marv absolutely pulled his pants down - made him look like a kid with no talent and on hope - and I've literally never seen Marv not put in a decent effort.

Ben Hunt. Never say never, especially considering how talented Roberts is, arguably more so than Hunt. It's a rubbish argument to make but all I'm saying is, you never know

But the difference is that Ben Hunt didn't have the same opportunity as Roberts has had. Hunt was on the bench from 2009-2012 and most of 2013. First year he becomes starting halfback he makes his test debut. Roberts has been starting halfback for pretty much 3 years now and is still showing inconsistency.
 
Ben Hunt had plenty of opportunities in the halves before and during his tenure as an interchange hooker. It's a similar story to Roberts actually.

Roberts will probably still sick even under Stone, I'm just saying that when a player is as talented as Roberts, you should never say never

Opportunities here & there aren't going to do anything when he can't play in the halves consistently, the most games in the halves Hunt ever had in a row before being switched permanently late in 2013 was 4. 4 games, Roberts has been our incumbent half since 2012 just about.

And I can't believe believe you said Roberts arguably has more talent than Hunt, Hunt won NYC Player of the Year, played in a grand final in that same year, excelled greatly as soon as he was given the halfback spot permanently & has now played for Australia. Roberts has played 70 top grade games as our halfback & is still very inconsistent.

Maybe we should chuck Mullen back in the 7 jersey and Roberts in the 6. However if that happened people would be having a fit because that was during the period where he was always considered Mr. Inconsistent and couldn't be relied on as much as now for results. From what I can see Mullen is our go to kicker, he calls the shots and sets up the plays. Roberts is more free flowing, a see it and do it player, eg his show-and-go or the odd chip and chase. They're basically two players playing in the wrong jersey.

Personally I am one of very few who enjoy Roberts being our half because I don't point out his flaws such as his missed tackles or inability to control games such as Cronk or Cherry-Evans, but I also enjoyed watching him play hooker in the games where Gidley was half so maybe he could have a positional change in the future. The way I see it is either play Gidley in the halves until he gets injured/retires, play Tuimavave in the halves which could turn out as either a really good or really bad signing or stick with Roberts in the halves because face it we aren't attracting a decent halfback any time soon. We missed our opportunity with Hunt re-signing with the Broncos and Adam Reynolds with a premiership and high price especially with the Boyd saga that dragged on until last week.
 
Mullen half, tuimavave 5/8 roberts 14, for trials anyway, 7 and 6 arnt that diff these days and let's face it mullen calls all the shots and does all the kicking anyway which a good half does.

Roberts could very easily have won halfback of the year a couple times. He was widely considered the best halfback in the NYC for the time he played. I'm not sure how old you are or how much of this you saw, but there's no question that Roberts at least appeared to be as talented as any half to have come through in recent times. The guy was a game dominator at that level. As was Hunt.

But let's no get carried away with Hunt, up until the start of this season he was headed for the chopping block at the Broncos, and that isn't a BS statement, that is fact. That's nearly 5 seasons of gross under achievement. So you're entire argument around his FG achievements are irrelevant to the argument of whether Roberts can make it or not. He debuted in 2009 mate, Roberts has another two seasons to run before mirroring Hunts timing of a breakout season

This was all I was trying to establish anyway. As Hunt has demonstrated, a break out season is exactly that. It's unpredictable, unforseen and unexpected. All I'm pointing to is that Roberts has loads of talent and is still very young and under a new coach his role could change in the slightest way, then boom, he does a Ben Hunt

Then again, he'll probably be lacking again this season and the next.

I saw a lot of Roberts in under 20s, and he was always a huge threat with ball in hand. He had a great running game and a very good passing game, so any time he got near the ball things happened. The thing is though, he played alongside Ryan Stig and AJ Davis, who both had the kicking and organising skills, so Roberts got away with not really having those skills. He scored a lot of tries, made a lot of breaks, delivered a lot of quality passes, but he was nearly always the junior partner in the halves, even in those days.
