Brian Smith has quit Parramatta ... should be good for us, he can get prepared to join the Knights and think about recruitment for next season, etc.

Anyone worried?

no not worried at all we seen to have same opinions on most topics you must be very intelligent especially for a kiwi this was on abc website
Smith walks out on Eels
Brian Smith has fallen on his sword for Parramatta's woeful start to the season, resigning effective immediately as the National Rugby League club's coach.

Smith was informed before the season began that he was no longer required by the Eels but was expected to see the current campaign out before linking with Newcastle.

But Parramatta, last year's minor premiers and preliminary finalists, have won just two of nine matches in 2006 to slump to third-last on the ladder and Smith felt it was time to move on.

"I ask questions of players and staff every day about their level of commitment and whether they've got the energy and desire to get a tough job done," he said.

"I ask myself that question every day and the answer was 'no' this morning."

He added in a statement: "I informed the players, staff and management team of my decision earlier this afternoon.

"In assessing the situation, it has become apparent that someone else should be at the helm to guide the team in future matches.

"It is a very sad day for me as I have given 10 years of service to the club, but my decision is based on what is best for the club."

Ironically, Newcastle coach Michael Hagan will be moving in the other direction at season's end, told by the Knights before the season started the he was also no longer required.

In the meantime the Parramatta board will discuss the appointment of a caretaker coach for the remainder of the season.

i dont know much about Brian Smith and im on codine so my comments could be completely rank here.... but what sort of coach walks out on a team half way through the year because his team is having a bad run?

Im for Brian here, I live at Penrith kinda near parra but there are alot of parra supporters out here.

He cops so much from the fans if they lose and gets put under pressure now think last year wen we lost 14 in a row did newcastle or even the fans want hagan out...i dont think so, with parra fans they have to win every bloody game to make their fans happy.

Smiths move to Newcastle will remove pressure as we are more acceptive than those Parra fans and trust me they r bad.

I mean is it the coaches fault or the teams fault they are letting trys in.

i see what your getting at knightlover... however when you are a coach you should expect that sort of crap from supporters! i can see how its going to be beneficial to newcastle, but why cant Brian Smith harden up and handle it?

Trust me the crap he gets here is just unbelievable I mean is it his fault they get smashed, run down wen leading no its the players faults, its just a joke wat ppl think bout him wen its the players who have to keep their fans.

Well not often I get called intelligent on a forum! At last someone has seen the light fanboy!

As for whether he's done the right thing leaving Parra - he is the guy who's been told he's going at the end of the year, so he's done well not to quit straight away. Although, having started the year you could say he owes it to the side to finish it - he's made the commitment for the whole 12 months. I wouldn't be surprised if Parra have told him jump or be pushed though, either.

Parramatta deserve it ... they are the ones that started this whole coaching merry-go-round.

smith quits Parra

Seems the Eels have given the caretaker position to assistant coach jason Taylor before he heads off to the Bunnies

i have always had a problem with smith. I think he has had alot to do with parra's break down and his players dont respect him, i am just wondering how the knights will take to him i highly doubt he will get the same trust as hagan had. But on the bright side he might be able to pursade tahu back to the red and blue now that hagen has gone, tahu had a problem with hagen putting him on the wing whilst smith puts him in his prefered position in the centres.

WE WANT TAHU!!!!

Yeh he would be a mad centre for the knights, or he might even think of the move of back to wing to play with gidley but as long as we get him back i dont care where he plays!!!

We don't have the money, he'd only come back if he could play centre, and we have plenty of centres in Gidley, Carmont and Tighe.

Sorry to be the party-pooper haha.

Yeh we are only wishing, its ok to wish lol, he wont come back we have good players anyway and at the moment they are playing better than him!!!
