Queensland fullback Billy Slater admits his elbow on NSW's Mitchell Pearce was deliberate








BILLY Slater doesn't deny his blatant elbow on Mitchell Pearce was a deliberate payback for a previous incident between the two players.

Pearce has publicly declared he wants revenge in the Origin decider on July 17 after Slater sledged him immediately after he opened up a nasty cut that left Pearce nursing a black eye and requiring four stitches.Slater has been dubbed "Teflon Billy" by the Blues because they claim "nothing sticks to him".Slater escaped punishment because the NRL's match review panel deemed the contact "accidental", which contradicts Pearce's claim.Asked yesterday if he did make the comment after connecting with the elbow, Slater didn't exactly deny those were his words."What's said and what's happened is in the past," he said. "I'm just focusing on this Friday, we've got the Broncos. And then we've got a pretty big game in the decider up in Sydney."But when questioned if the players had learned their lesson in regards to the game's new no-biff policy that resulted in four players being sin-binned in Brisbane, Slater took aim at the media for "creating conflict" between the teams.

"To be honest, I think it is more a media beat-up," he said. "You know, the media probably put us up against each other more than the players do."The players just focus on their role in their side. There are a lot more things to worry about than getting out there and sorting each other out."It's a pretty big game and I think that's what the players focus on. The media focus on jamming wedges between each team and creating conflict."It's worth remembering this all started in game one in Sydney because Paul Gallen was sick and tired of Nate Myles "headbutting and twisting" knees in tackles and he decided it was time for someone to stand up to the Queensland enforcer.The fact the referees refused to sin bin Gallen led to NRL boss David Smith and referees boss Daniel Anderson issuing a new edict that any player caught throwing a punch would be immediately sin-binned.The Blues were also angry Slater escaped punishment for his blatant elbow, especially after Pearce claimed he sledged him with the "one-all, c..." comment.

They say that one comment proved it was a deliberate act and not "accidental", as the match review panel ruled.Slater was the king of the kids at the Billy's Buddies school holiday clinic in Melbourne yesterday but on Saturday night at Leichhardt he got a taste of what he might expect in the Origin decider.Wests Tigers fans gave it to him at every opportunity during the Storm's shock loss.While Pearce has already stated he will be out for revenge, Slater yesterday played down the talk it will get personal between the two."Look, I'm not going to stand here and say I'm going to do this and I'm going to do that," Slater said. "It is a pretty important football game. I am just going to concentrate on my role in my team and whatever happens from there happens."

So after Origin 2 the Queenslanders led by Thurston came out and bagged the crap out of Trent Merrin for a "Dog Shot"....

What a bunch of hypocrites...

Tate and Hodges are the 2 of the biggest cheap shot merchants going around they are cowards and now this tosser comes out and admits to what can only be described as a gutless act...

Billy Slater will get whats coming to him, so will Tate, Hodges, Third man in Thaiday and Forehead...I mean Myles and when it happens I hope it hurts :)

As I said in another thread, Slater's the biggest thug in the game. I'm currently watching a game from 04 on Fox, and even back then he was making a couple of cheap shots per game, by the looks of it.

Absolute joke that he is never penalised for anything he does. Why is he above the game?!

NSW players are said to be seething that nothing sticks to "Teflon Billy'', citing a long - but largely unreported - history of cheap shots. Do they have a case?

Questions have again surfaced over the Queensland and Storm fullback's tidy image after he refused to deny intentionally elbowing Blues No.7 Mitchell Pearce in Origin II.The elbow is one of a number of controversial incidents involving Slater that have gone unpunished this season.

SLATER opens a cut on Pearce's face in Origin II after throwing an elbow while down in a tackle.

The Maroons custodian is said to have followed with the words: "One all, c...," relating to a previous incident between the pair. Slater has not admitted to any of this.He escapes punishment because the NRL's match review panel deems the contact "accidental".

Late shot on Winterstein – March 17 (charged, no ban)

COWBOYS flyer Antonio Winterstein makes a break down the wing and, as he passes inside, Slater collects him late with his upper arm.

Winterstein lies on the ground for several minutes and Slater repeatedly checks to see if he is OK.

The incident is missed during the match, but Slater is later hit with a dangerous contact charge. He escapes suspension with an early guilty plea.

Shoulder charge on Simmons – May 12 (no charge)

AS the Panthers' David Simmons attempts to score one of his two tries in the round 9 clash, Slater unsuccessfully attempts to deny the winger with a shoulder charge.

Simmons miraculously still manages to put the ball down and Billy's hit goes unnoticed.

Karate kick on Klemmer – March 23 (no charge)

SLATER flies high to defuse a bomb and, in the same motion, kicks out his foot.

His boot catches the face of incoming Bulldogs prop David Klemmer.Slater is placed on report for dangerous play, but the judiciary opts not to charge him.

Debate about Slater's jumping style rages afterwards.



NSW skipper Paul Gallen said that while Slater does seem to get away with bending the rules, so does every other player."It doesn't frustrate me (that he avoids punishment)," Gallen told Sky Sports Radio on Tuesday."Yeah, sure, if you have a look at some of the things he does he probably does get away with a little bit but he's a terrific player."To be honest, all of us probably get away with a little bit on the field, I know I do. I'm not going to try and hang anyone out for a few sneaky little elbows."Billy is a competitive bloke and ... for a player who has this real clean-boy image he's very aggressive."That's why he's such a good player and he's been the best fullback in the game for the past eight to 10 years.''

if there is one man in league (if i could catch the c**t) it would be Billy "The Grubb" Slater i would kick, elbow, knee than hit him with a mad combo and a spell in a bin would be worth just to see blood coming from his face coz it would put a smile on mine and a lot of others
