Aidan Guerra

Imo he played alot better this year when he played on an edge.
he was average when they had him coming off the bench and playing in the middle.

Definitely agree that Guerra rose to another level the back half of the year which was good to see, as I too was a bit skeptical of the signing.

I appreciate the professionalism and experience he'll bring to the table which is arguably his best trait atm and something our young team sorely lacked this past season, but in terms of on field performance, I've never been his biggest fan tbh. After we signed him though, I watched him more closely and thought he played well for the most part. A good step above what I expected.

One of the things I've noticed with him though is he seems to need the team around him playing well as a whole for him to play well, otherwise he's a non factor. In saying that, I do think he'll bring a lot to our team next season in terms of professional and experience. I think he can offer us some decent footy on the field too, both at lock and second row depending on what Brown needs.

Barge Arse, not sure if him raising to another level or just that he ended the year on an edge where he was more involved in play, when he was at Lock the emphasis was on Defence and covering for others defensive deficiencies.

Professionalism and experience is something which needs to be bought into by the squad, while it is good to have direction from a team mate it means nothing if players think they are better individually than the team.

Having a team functioning as it should does allow a player to perform , within the structures that suit the Game plan, successful teams have specific parameters each player is allowed to operate within, when an individual doesn't adhere to these parameters , disciplined players often show adverse effects of uncertainty.

Brown should have a plan with specific parameters for each position rather than each player, some players are capable of playing multiple positions therefore logically they need to be disciplined enough to operate inside the parameters set for position on the field, often these will dictate how much of an impact they have on a game whether the emphasis is attack or defence , this often alters from the punters perceived expectations for each players week by week performance.

Is this Kenny Powers???????????

Interesting that Guerra had decided to not play for Italy because he wants to settle into Newcastle in time for the start of the pre season.
Sounds like he is very motivated to start well at a new club.

Just watched the Video interview on the Knights Site, articulates really well and appears to be most impressed with the Club , thus far .

This thread will remain open but I trust you will all do the right thing and use this thread to discuss Aidan's on field performances / best position etc etc

Thanks everyone

From a cap point of view and that he might be past his best I understand this but we do owe him a debt of thanks.

Frank, I agree but it can only be cap pressure cause , this team is floundering and as most have noted else where on this forum Defence is letting us down.

Remind me, who in the Knights won 2 awards last year for Defensive efforts ?

Something doesn’t add up - “ past his best “ maybe but last week he played 23 mins and made 25 tackles, if defence is this teams failing , lets cut an experienced solid defensive player that makes sense, maybe not.

Yeah, if this is a serious consideration it's one I think they may live to regret.

Guerra has been one of our most reliable players since coming here and undoubtedly makes the guys around him better players for his attitude and experience.

I'll be pretty disappointed if this happens, particularly if it comes at the expense of keeping or signing someone who offers no appreciable upside by comparison.

The problem with moving players on whilst on contract is the ones you want to keep are the ones you could unload due to others being interested and the ones you don’t want no one wants.
Supply and demand, it is a business

I'd be happy if Guerra moves on, as he will only be released if he agrees to that happening, so presumably it will be something he also wants. The club might be doing him a favour by letting him explore options now rather than in 12 months' time. At 31, he could probably land a decent multi-year deal in Super League, and he is still playing at a reasonably high level. If he waits until next year, he will be a year older and his UK deal might not be as attractive, meaning moving internationally becomes a less attractive proposition. Also happy if he stays as well though, as he's a good clubman and still playing well enough.

I hope Guerra plays next year with us, I still think he has a lot to offer us. He signed with us while we were rebuilding and his defence was invaluable to us last year.
