Adam Clune signs two year deal

A player in his mid 20’s with a handful of FG games that can’t displace Norman and being overtaken by a 19 year old kid. Surely you’d rather stick it out with a young junior like Crossland then bring in scraps from another average NRL side.

People will disagree but I like this. Very smart, cheap pickup who some clubs in need of a starting half should have already snapped up. Competent, reliable backup.

Astute signing I think. He’s not going to be our first choice half, but if/when our first choice halves are injured, there won’t be too much lost in Clune coming in. If we keep Crossland, he needs to develop a lot more to be pushing for a spot.
 
I don't like to criticise a player before he comes, especially one I haven't really watched play, so I won't, but I will say that signing a cheap, firstgrade ready half seems like a kneejerk reaction to our problem this year of not being able to cover for Pearce being out injured. We'd have been better off keeping Lino.
In the article it says Clune can play a whole range of roles. I hope that's right.
 
I'm not a fan from what I've seen.
His defence was poor in the game I watched. Looks quite small.

Hope he proves me wrong.

He can, as long as they are all organising half
 
Did he use to have big wraps on him at one stage or am I thinking of another dragons half?? That’s moved on recently
 
Well further to what Member said, I haven't seen Crossland do much, and certainly not better than Lino.

I'd have kept him here on a cheap deal.

But I guess the club has to keep sifting through talent until they find a gem.
 
We have had a number of half’s come through the grades over the last few or more years without success for one reason or another and usually ended up buying a top grade player such as Pearce and others before him. Correct me if I am wrong but this is the first time we have bought a unproven, older, half as a back up to our main half when we have a local that is about the same standard with youth on his side.
Hard to see why, kick in the guts for local prospects, if Clune was younger, had shown ability, prospects then ok, but?
