2026 Season

Just watched the highlights and the Phins were poor. But it goes to show how much footy is about attitude. Manly played on emotion. It’s not on what Foran did at training in a week. It’s just attitude.

Is it just that Seibs & AOB, who share many coaching commonalities, are so restrictive in how their teams attack, seeking to play a possession & field-position game, that it saps their teams' confidence in attack and energy overall because they don't score enough and they're always defending?
Seibold and O'Brien coach on the what not to do on the field. If you tell a person enough times not to drop the ball, that is all they are thinking when they go to catch the ball. Negative thinking is catchy so is positive thinking. Seibold and O'Brien can definitely cull a footy team and should move into a different source of income, that doesn't involve motivation of people to do well.

Nailed it.

You don’t tell players ā€œnot to drop the ballā€. You tell them to compete. To get around their teammate when there’s an error and to trust each other to defend errors. And that you can always make up for an error later.

Players who know they’re going to cop it for errors tense up. Players who know they’re going to cop it for a lack of effort will feel the coach trusts in their ability.

Easy for me to say from the couch where my job isn’t on the line if the players **** up too much, but that’s how it is.

It's a matter of balance.
You have to cut mistakes to a minimum, and you have to push the boundaries as well.
The good teams do both well.
The good coaches like Bennett and Bellamy mix being cranky pants who don't tolerate mistakes with also being really happy and encouraging when players do something special.

It’s a good point. You see on the field when a player makes a mistake his team mates close by still give them a pat, heads up mate, move on.

Don’t know if negative/positive mindset is the instant reason Manly put 50 on the Phins.

On the Phins I think there forward pack isn’t firing as much as everyone expected. On paper rep level forwards but coming back from serious injuries.

There’s definitely issues with there defence. Katoa still young and learning his trade, so he will still have off games.

Some sad news:

He famously dropped the ball in the 1976 grand final with the goal line open and cost Parramatta a premiership.

Here's hoping the bunnies beat the dogs today, mostly because I don't like the dogs but because of the media storm it will create for loosing 2 in a row šŸ˜†

A lack of pace in the Dogs team may not be their biggest problem, but it certainly showed up with Alex Johnson there.
