Recruitment And Retention Discussion

Pryce improved a lot after playing firstgrade last year.
He went back to cup and was one of our best.
I've always said that, if he was on 200k like other players his age (Riley Jones, Tom Cant etc), he'd be a really good prospect.
I hope he improves enough for us to offer him a contract next year - maybe half what he is on now.

So Brown $13mil ten year deal, two clubs Knights and “unnamed” club? Any ideas who that could be? Fallacy? Or a club in need of a half with cap space next year. Roosters, although uncle Nick has said no. Dolphins?

There's a few plausible clubs but it could honestly just be a total beat up from his manager.

If it's real yeah you're probably looking at teams who likely have cap space and noses they don't want to put out of joint unless they know the trade-off is landing DB.

Manly - need to replace DCE and may be wary about the kids they have coming through (Joey Walsh in particular, very talented but a rugby convert), probably don't want to **** off Daly if it turns out they don't get Dylan and they then need to sign Daly again. Brown and Brooks could probably play together, with Brooks becoming the 7. I think this may be the most likely one if the rumour is true, because I'd be very very worried about my halves duo of the future being Brooks and a very young half. I think we've seen Luke needs more help than that.
Roosters - have got a highly touted young half in Toby Rodwell they've made a solid commitment to, but when we found out Dylan was testing the market we all assumed Roosters for a reason, he's obviously a perfect Keary replacement. Keary but better honestly. They have heaps of cap space, legitimately for once. Uncle Nick been burned by missing out on players lately & wouldn't want another embarrassing rejection.
Bulldogs - Gus is always insisting they have cap space, but really what he does is go over the cap then frantically unload whoever he needs to. Probably wouldn't want to **** off Sexton and young Mitchell Woods if they don't get Brown.

The "they don't want it to get out" part leads me to rule out:

Warriors - have a bunch of prospects but there'd be concerns with all of them eg Metcalf's injury history, CHT's inconsistent commitment to footy, Tanah Boyd's not being good at footy. These players would know where they stand. Tohu Harris money burning a hole in their pocket. Would in theory be looking for a Kiwi star to replace SJ. Why would they need to keep an approach to Dylan a secret?
Dolphins - 6 is the obvious hole in their roster now but they may think they have bigger issues. JMK, Katoa and Hamiso at 9, 7 and 1 will probably have a lot of points in them as they grow together. Again I think, if they were going to go after Brown, why would they want to hide it?

The fact a ten year deal is on the table means Parra are at thousands to keep him. There is no way he is walking away from 6 million dollars.

10 years is ridiculous as is 1.3 mil a year. I thought POS was smarter than this.
Back half of deal may prove to be unders if broadcast rights continue on there upward trajectory.
I think the last 2 or 3 years may involve mutual options. 10 yrs flat does seem a little crazy to me, in saying that we are a club who needs to roll the dice on these sort of things, we got laughed at for signing ponga to the richest deal for a teenager in nrl history but it was what we needed to do as a club at the time.
I say do what it takes and lets have a shot at winning the comp in the next 3-5 years and we can cry about this deal in 7 or 8 years time 😅

We need to get every other team named in the media, then whoever it is will drop out

I think if Brown is Newy bound and assuming it's for 7 coz of Sharpe being 6. We need to have a ball playing dominate forward, I think Croker has to be that man. Shape him into a Yeo prototype that can get the ball to Brown, Sharpe and Ponga a little wider on the pitch. Start that development now, move Friz to prop and let Croker own that 13 jersey

I cant help but worry over such a long term deal. We get excited but see contracts broken all the time! What’s to say we lock and load him on this 10 year deal then 2 years down the track he wants out? We have seen it before!

We hear this a lot but I would put my car on the line to say there is no way it’s a flat 10 year deal.

POS would not do that it’s prob 7/8 years plus POs and I dare say Ratchet clauses across the final years to ensure he still gets the 13m even if he doesn’t live up to the 10 years and opts out

Even Briath Anasta believes the Knights offer to Brown is a risk they should take.

It’s interesting that Fox is reporting that the Eels are nervous about the prospect of losing Brown.

There’s no factual evidence saying we have put forward a 10 year offer, only he said she said gossip. I don’t even know if the club have even tabled a deal to him yet.

Newcastle as a club might just have to take the risk. A player of his calibre doesn’t come around often. If what’s true about contract length then you’d be a madman not to take it but also there’s a lot of risk behind it. Player form, injuries, age etc. all play a part. He could be the missing piece of the puzzle to our premiership charge.

I’d love to have Brown here, but after Pezet I’m not holding my breath. I’ll just wait patiently and trust in our POS.
