2025 pre season thread

Schiller, Annan, Pryce, Votano, DeCourcey and McCarthy (clearly the last 3 are depth players at this stage)

Yeah not sure about the depth. Schiller will be starting if Sharpe is in the halves and the rest are 2 kids who have never played first grade, a bloke whose last game of league might have been as a ten year old, Pryce who has never played in the outside backs and McCarthy who can't play firsts at all.

I guess im referencing against what we had to what we have. Jenkins could barely tie his laces and Tuala whilst solid enough i dont rate him as a first grader. He should always be a depth player lie these other kids. Thats just my opinion. But i understand what youre saying

I actually felt like we were in a good place with outside backs now, Schiller, Annan, Pryce, Votano, DeCourcey and McCarthy (clearly the last 3 are depth players at this stage) immediately outside last years starters and KPP can play there. Im much more excited with that than Jenkins and Tuala from last year.
Currently I’d have McCarthy in same frame as Schiller and Annan maybe above Annan only due to him not having a lot of rugby league under his belt.

If Schiller

fairly certain you can upgrade a train and trialist to supplementary pretty immediately. So if we were for some reason desperate McCarthy could take Linnane or Malachi’s positions.

Honestly I would give Malachi’s to McCarthy just makes more sense.

Annan above Annan?
We have 2 Annans?

Here's the talk out of a training session from two days ago that I don't know has been talked about. The hit out had a confirmed lineup like the following: (sure you can fill in the gaps with the obvious)
fullback: Ponga
Right Wing: Schiller
Five Eight: Sharpe
Half: Gamble
Hooker: Crosslands
Edges: Lucas and Friz
Prop: Leo
Lock: Cant

Adam Elliott training with the 2s team, KPP didn't train but apparently he's in the rotation when fit,

Barry Toohey think's it unlikely Sharpe's playing five eight and said that Pryce and Gamble have been doing reps there too. Not sure how much he knows these days though..

Jeez….I’m so excited for the new season!

He might be. He’s a good 9, but out of Crossy/Brailey and Arthur he’s not going to be required.
Exactly, not to mention Jones, Cogger, Gamble and Elliot who can fill in
All reports Smith's killing it at training, have you heard otherwise?
Good on the lad he can train it down all he wants it will do him good for his own game in the lower grades and his development but McCarthy is miles closer to NRL than Smith is accounting for the fact he made his Debut last year (and looked really good), look we just don’t need him yet, I don’t hate the kid it’s just facts.

We will be using Cogger (a half/6) before Smith and to be honest I think we will use Elliot before Smith.

Players I’m most excited to watch this year:

Bradman Best - Hopefully remains injury free and continues on his upward trajectory.

Kalyn Ponga - As above.

Fletcher Sharpe - Wherever he plays he’ll add another point of attack, electric player, needs to be in the mix somewhere.

James Schiller - Plenty of speed, knows how to find the line. Same with Sharpe, I think we need to find a spot for him.

Dylan Lucas - Had a huge 2024 season. Has to be kept at second-row and only fill in for the backs unless absolutely necessary. Think he’s got Origin footy written all over him.

Tom Cant - Think with time he’ll become a great lock. Goal kicker which we need. Gives Matt Hilder underrated vibes but stockier. May push Elliott out at some stage.

Connor Votano - Freak of nature. All the skills and crazy footwork. Hopefully we keep this kid around for a long time. Hopefully see more of him in Cup and get him developed and playing against bigger bodies.

No one is going to miss DSaf, hopefully we don’t have any players this year who are intentionally underperforming.
We're about to find out if DSaf has been phoning it in for the Knights for the last 4 seasons. Either way, I think you're right still. If he's poor no one will miss him. If he returns to form for the Dolphins that'll leave a bad taste in the mouths of fans who supported him through his prolonged dip in form while on $800k a year.

Im glad he is gone.

He will probably have his career best year this year at the Dolphins.
But he wouldn't have if he stayed here.

It was a good move for the club and himself.
