2025-2026 Summer of Cricket

No Cummins or Lyon for the rest of the series. Be interesting to see if we replace Cummins with Neser or go with Richardson. I would think Murphy comes in for Lyon unless they go with 4 quick again

Archer gone for the series. Ollie Pope dropped for someone who hasn’t scored a first class hundred in Bethell.
What happened to Archer?
The Australian conditions seem to knock him around.

I'm as happy with pom bashing as the next guy, but Duckett getting pissed a week before he plays is the biggest non story ever.
Doug Walters got pissed at breakfast before the game I think.
Yes, Dougie always loved a beer and wouldn’t let a test match get in the way of a few beers.
The thing was though, he always seemed to show up and play great cricket.

Real cricketers get on it the night before and play completely busted. Doug Walters and I have that in common.

As mentioned in post #426, that guy really needs to get a go to even things out.

And Duckett is been investigated his behaviour in Noosa.

I’ve been waiting for this to happen….after the Tiger Moth incident with Gower all those years ago, and the Pedalo debacle with Flintoff this tops off a very miserable tour (with still two games to play)! 😓

Agreed. Recent history both in terms of Ashes series in Australia and cricket series overall shows that England had next to no chance of winning but the least we should expect is a team fully committed to playing competitively which means doing all the right preparation before and during the series. It feels to me like the whole ‘player responsibility’ approach within Bazball has been abused by some of the players.

Having said all of that I don’t think the answer is to scorch the earth and clear out the leadership / senior playing group. They will have learnt a lot from this experience and I’d love them to be given the opportunity to apply the learning over the next few years.

waiting for the rains to come and prevent a 5-0.

They play well for a session or 2. And then it just unravels. The potential is there. There just needs to be some match awareness. Smith and Jacks had us on the ropes. Another 20-30 runs from that partnership would’ve put them in a very good position. Instead they played some “Baz ball” shot.

3-0 down. Ashes lost. Some fans travelling over and spending lots of money and time to see them.
I think surely the group/board/coaches/captains or whoever should have ensured there wasn’t a player alone, pissed, stumbling around in public.

At least do a private function, make sure nobody is leaving alone and put in that situation.

Don’t really have a problem with them having a drink or going on a holiday between games to “sightsee”. Team bonding and experiences are a big part of these trips.
But I think this is a bad look. And could/should have been prevented.

We probably won’t need a spinner on this pitch with the expected weather conditions for the next 5 days.
