2024 Recruitment and Retention Thread - Rebuild 2: This Time It’ll Work For Sure (Unironically)

Will Warbrick improving with each game. I’d be on board if he was the club’s target as Dom/Hymel’s replacement.

Albert Hopoate also showing himself to be a good workhorse winger.

Saw that the dragons are looking to clean house with 24 players off contract. Only players I would touch are Kerr and Liddle for depth. Could do much worse

In investigating the potential Dragons house cleaning I found something interesting.

Mikaele Ravalawa is off contract, technically. He has a player option for next year he hasn’t taken up.

Forget the bums mentioned above. This is the guy. Used to be a laughing stock but has become legitimately pretty elite. Still flies under the radar a bit though being a non-Origin eligible player at a poverty club.

Get Tyson on the blower with him ASAP. “It’s so much better up here mate.”

Well there goes the theory that he’s taking the salary which used to go to Tupou…

Might be too early for Connor Votano in 2024. He'll be 18. But I think he's already doing some training sessions with firstgrade and he looks like wing might be his spot. He's already way over 6' - he towers over Fletcher Sharpe who is about 6' - and he's pretty fast.
Probably more of a 2025 prospect, but with Dom going and only Chris Vea'ila and Luke Pliztner looking like good wing prospects, Votano could be a smokie for 2024. Others have debuted at 18.

I'm a bit concerned that we haven't been linked with many players for 24,
Players I'd consider,

Tieg Wilton
Corey Waddell
Ethan Bullimore (if not too much ?)
Kaeo Weekes ($?)
Will Warbrick
Wiremu Greig
Eddie Blacker
Soni Luke
Scott Sorensen
Jake Turpin

I notice Kane Evans has been released by Hull FC and is heading back to Australia.
I generally don't like us signing players on the wrong side of 30, but if he wanted to sign for just the rest of the season, we probably can't get anyone better at this stage. Not for two years though.

I'm not concerned. The club doesn't give much away these days in terms of recruitment. If we are linked to players in the media, it's probably not much more than a best guess from them.

I was a Kruise Leeming naysayer but watching him against the Broncos and Dolphins, definitely a lot of attacking nous there, really good at manipulating markers etc. He's genuinely quite good, not a great defender as you'd imagine having only ever done Super League training and contact, but that can be worked on. I think he got scapegoated for the Dolphins collapse and dropped. Which is very Holbrook. But he really is quite good with ball in hand, would take him over Soni.

Soni is marked as heir apparent to the Penrith 9 role with Api gone. Kenny is just a place holder until he's ready to start. No way they let him go and no way he comes to Newy to sit behind Brailey
If we still see Brailey as the long term guy at this point, we deserve to be in the position we're in. We need to move on. If he recovers well, that's great and we can see what happens then, but that is so far away from now.

Don’t get the Soni Luke love, very Danny Levi like to me. He is a good dummy half runner but has poor judgement on when to run and over uses it, leading to errors. His already 27 so don’t see the value in him as an investment.

When I watch him play, he and the halves seem to be on different wave lengths.

Would be shocked if the Sharks let Wilton go anywhere. He could be in that side for another decade. Classy player, who runs great lines and has a real good knack of scoring match winning tries.

He would be top of my recruitment list.
