2022 Knights Recruitment & Retention Thread

Andrew Ryan has been let go by the Knights.
It was announced a while ago that he decided to go back to coaching South Newcastle. It sounded like his choice.
I thought he did a really good job this year and it will be hard to replace him.

I see, I didn't actually see that announcement, I have a few mutual connections on Linkedin so it popped up on my feed, he just said his time was over at the Knights and was grateful for the opportunity.

Article saying Tuala on the verge of signing a 2 year deal, Crossland will be offered 1 year deal, Hoy and Johns not yet offered a deal, but "may still be squeezed in" and we are still looking for a second rower.

Does that mean we are not looking for another outside back?

Probably - which is sensible if we have To'a, Hunt, Best, Tuala, Young, Hodgson, Musgrove, Mann all looking at 4 positions.

The article only mentions we are still in the market for a second rower - no other target mentioned.

I think it depends on how Lee fares with his injury. We've got a lot of backs as Billy mentioned, although I think the club is looking to bolster first-grade quality depth (from what Toohey has said previously).

And Gagai at the top of the list. I think we are set for outside backs. Tuala is improving well.

I actually hope Best gets over his late season form slump. Haven't seen him do alot in the last 2 months and seemed frustrated at times.

His first game back from injury he was brilliant and has seemed to regress from there.

Yeah I dunno what it is about best. Unsure if he can read a game yet but I think he is a player that should go roaming or looking for the ball in attack. Not doing red zone hitups wayyy too often.

All back line need to do red zone hot ups. Have been for ages. Mann doesn't get his fair share of meters which gagai will get - that will take pressure off the other 3.

Plus Gagai will help mentor Best - so best isn't our best outside back at such a young age. So Best won't be our best but Gagai will help Best get to his Best and that's best for the whole team.

This wasn't formatted the best... ;)

Yep they sure do. Hence why I think wingers are bigger bodied athletes now. Tuala for instance gets driven back most times from his smaller stature. Good winger not much good in red zone.

We probably need to get some of those backs into the forwards.
Mann is a chance to play lock or spend some time at dummy half off the bench.
Souths used Hunt in the second row a few times, but that was probably just to cover for some injury or something.
Sasagi has played some lock and second row and hooker when he was a utility in under 18s - just to see what he was best at I think.
Best was a second row before they saw how fast he is.
Young might turn into a forward if he bulks up a bit, now he isn't a teenager anymore.

For mine you are 100% spot on Dan. He hesitates, particularly in defence, trying to get a handle on what he is faced with and what to do about it. After all his old man was a front rower!!! ☺️
