2022 Knights Recruitment & Retention Thread

That was nice work by Jones to break tackles and then offload to Randall for a try under the posts. He has it in him and is often the decoy runner or backing up with a bit of pace. Just needs confidence and encouragement to go with it. He covers a lot of ground in defence and is quite quick, we could do worse

100% agree

Top teams all have a ball playing forward

Panthers - Yeo
Bunnies - Murray
Storm - Bromwich
Manly - Schuster
Rooster - Radley

Having a ball playing backrower would make Kalyns and Cliffords job infinitely easier. And add another dimension to the attack

In most cases multiple.

JFH at Panthers.
Benchy Marshall at Souths.
Welch is better at it than Bromwich, and Cheese goes to lock when Grant comes on.
Liu, Taukeiaho, Crichton at the Chooks.

Yeah if I’m Adzy I have Brodie pencilled in on the right edge next year and I’m telling him, mate, I don’t care if you only make 50 metres a night. You’re our effort areas guy. Save your energy for defence, kick chases, decoy running. The most valuable carry you can make is one out of trouble. Tick those boxes and I’ll pick you every week.

I think he’s comfortably our most laterally mobile back rower and a lack of movement sideways is where our edge forwards have let us down over the years. The more time he gets defending next to Pearce, the better for us. I’d put Frizell on the left to overload that side with more strike and physicality in attack. Screw balancing it out. Which top club does that? If we’re destroying teams down the left things inevitably get easier for the right sides players anyway, Reimis Smith absolutely carving up at the Storm, Manu & Campbell Graham absolutely get theirs, etc.

Barnett is the best option we have at lock right now, and I’d actually have Momoisea in mind as the guy who could play 13 in a couple of years, he reminds me of Tapine a bit.

Then when it comes to recruiting the back rower the club covers, you can focus more on high ceiling young prospects, rather than looking to overpay for some old bugger.

If the club is set on finding a back rower who’s ready to go now, my left field suggestion is Mike McMeeken, who plays for Catalans in the Super League. The off contract list is dire atm, and I don’t think the one for next year is great either. McMeeken is that big, tackle busting back rower, and he can pass a bit too. Not off contract but I feel like there’s been precedent of the ESL clubs letting guys go early who want to challenge themselves in the NRL.

Do we want our ex-captain back?
Not many back rowers on the market.

SIMS GIVEN MARCHING ORDERS

NSW Blues backrower Tariq Sims has been told by the Dragons he can speak with rival clubs and will not be re-signed by the club beyond 2022.

Sims, 31, has been the acting captain at the Dragons since Ben Hunt went down with injury.

But on Friday it emerged that the Red V saw no role for him beyond next season.

Absolute NO from me!!

Last time he was here he phoned it in with his brother and took the money under false pretences.

I got to sit on the side lines through all those home games they had their ar$3$ handed to them, while he laughed and joked with the opposition 10 seconds after the end of every game and where he was also happy to laugh in the faces of the Knights fans paying his wages!!!

His next contract will be his last, so whoever signs him will get exactly the same phone it in....except when he plays the Knights and hopefully we will ensure he is on the receiving end of a flogging and we get to do the laughing!!!

In case you haven't figured it out, I hate him with a passion - he should never get a second pay packet here, I don't want him or the culture he brings thanks.

Agree with getting high ceiling young prospects

Didn't we sign Toni Matele or something like that fron the Eels ?
We did. Turning 20 next year. The mole reported he would be in the senior squad in 2022, but also had him on a development deal for this year which wasn’t the case.

Was a backrower but looked to have played mainly prop this year. Played 1 game of nsw cup this year off the bench with good stats. Been playing for Lakes in the local comp and from the bits I saw, was a class above. Massive kid for his age with good footwork for a big fella. Great prospect and I’d be surprised if he’s not one of the 4 signed to a development deal next year.

I see bj leluia wants to turn into a prop to secure his next contract. I personally would not have him here because I don't think he fits in with the culture we are building. But from a playing perspective he could be the point of difference in the front row that we need.
