2022 Knights Recruitment & Retention Thread

Having a look at outside back options considering we need to strengthen in this area. Obviously we don’t have a lot of money to spend there considering Edrick is being let go.

Now I know this ain’t the most sexiest list, but I’m assuming the bigger is low so I’ve ruled out the likes of Staggs, Coates, Gagai & Brenko

I’ve tried to concentrate on strong ball runners who can bring the ball out of our end which is an area where I think we’re struggling.

I guess it all depends on how many spots open up? Edrick is gone, whilst Hunt, Tuala, Mann, Hoy & possibly Shibasaki (player option) are all off contract.

I think Hunt, Tuala, Mann and Hoy all get re-signed. Shibs has a PO but if the club tells him he won’t be playing FG next year, he might take a better opportunity somewhere else. Glad you didn’t consider Brenko, as he is total garbage.
 
Wonder what the chance is of this happening, all mid-season:

- Walters to Broncos (following Tigers signing Hastings)
- Dearden to Cowboys
- Clifford to Knights

The NRL is always good for some contract dramas lol.

Walters is already at the Broncos.

Clifford to Knights is as good as done if ‘Rudi’ is saying so on the Cowboys forum which he is.

Walters still at the Tiges (for now). Hope Rudi is on the money. I don’t buy into forum member info much. Not saying Rudi is wrong, but there’s a lot of people on various forums who claim to have insight but are only speculating at best.

I joined the cowboys forum just now as 'knightboyman' (I promise that's not a troll it's just me being too lazy to come up with a name)

I've done some trawling and I haven't been able to find anything by this Rudi guy that says Clifford mid-season is done.
 
My mistake thought he had already joined the Broncos. Guessing they are just waiting for him to get back to being fit before trying to bring him in.

Rudi is never wrong. Called Drinkwater and McGuire before media got a whiff of either early release from their former clubs.

Same with Zammit last year when I had posted that on here well before the media made any noise on that.
 
For what it’s worth I’ve heard from a second source (a friend’s friend) that Clifford will be getting that early release. I’m not sure if it’s contingent on Dearden getting one as well - sounds like they know the situation with Jake is untenable either way and if they miss out on Dearden they probably have a different young/emerging half in mind they think they can get.

I feel like the direction the club is heading in, it’ll be a bit of studs & scrubs recruitment. When they actually spend money it’ll be on someone elite, otherwise it’ll be a lot of picking guys off the scrap heap or promoting from within. So I reckon the days of bringing in players who are sort of middle of the road like Pompey & Herbert might be at an end. Someone like Valemei or Taulagi feels possible though...

I see these guys as cheap options all under 250k type players who would be looking to move clubs to earn a regular spot in 1st grade.

I could be wrong about how much these guys are worth, but I’m thinking the same as you regarding studs & scrubs
 
I remember a few years back I said we should go for Sivo & Ravalawa when they were still playing reggies. Instead we went for Edrick Lee
