2022 Jersey Flegg

24-16

The Knights did this against Canberra.
Thought they had won, took the foot off the gas and nearly lost.

This ref is giving the roosters some absolutely pathetic penalties in last 10mins.
We have had hardly any ball and not one 50/50 call in second half

Lovely bit of heartattack stuff from us in the second half there, surprised they went for the 45m penalty attempt to win the game but thankful nonetheless.

Strangely Mapa looked more comfortable in first grade than he did here.

The whole giving up a try in the first few sets and taking the foot off the gas when you think you have it won has to stop.
I can't take that again.
Donoghoe and Sharpe were our best - although it would be nice if Sharpe can do 1 try saving tackle before the season is over - the skinny 17 year old is just a speed bump.

We get 2 weeks off.
Would be nice if Naigolivia, Vea'ila, Greacen, Sutton and maybe a few of the older forwards can be in for that game.

Ethan Ferguson made some nervous errors and probably tried too hard, but having the young guy look bigger, stronger and more dangerous than Mapapalangi is very encouraging.
For the last couple of years in Mathews we have had a very poor side, but it was worth watching just to see Ferguson score from nearly anywhere on the field 1 or 2 times nearly every game.
He was a year young for Ball and 3 years young for Flegg this year, but he still looks like he could go up a grade.

Ball R8 - 6 tries
Ball R9 - 1 try
Flegg R12 - 0
Flegg R15 - 1 try
Flegg R21 - 1 try
Flegg R22 - 1 try
Flegg R23 - 2 tries
Flegg R24 - 1 try
Flegg final 1 - 1 try
Flegg final 2 - 2 tries

Fletcher Sharpe - 16 tries in his last 10 games, including scoring in his last 7 in a row.

Excellent to see for myself that we have some good prospects in the lower grades.
And I think only Purcell and Burgess and maybe a few others are too old for Flegg next year. Most of the team are good for 2 more years, and Sharpe, Ferguson and Martin are good for 3 more years.

Obviously we are filled up with squad so those older players might be the ones to be offered Dev contract and the younger ones stay in Flegg in 2023, might need to use the full quota of Development

I wonder if we could get Tim Johhannson back for the GF.
He played plenty of games for us this year and only a few for Canterbury, so it feels like he should be qualified for us.
If Burgess and Creacen don't get up for the grandfinal we are starting to look thin in the forwards, given that Keeley can't play because of suspension.
Harry Croker, Jyris Glamuzina and that big redhead from Cessnock are a few we can use.
Simi Sasagi would be great to use at lock. He started the year in Flegg, so we should be able to use him.

The last time we made the Jersey Flegg GF the team included Aku Uate, Kade Snowden, Cory Paterson, Scott Dureau, Luke Walsh, Terrence SeuSeu, Tim Natusch and the guys we couldn't pick because they were playing up a grade were James McManus and Jarrod Mullen.
We lost the GF against Penrith.

Someone has put together a highlights reel for a Roosters winger and Knights centre James Johnson before yesterday's final.

James is a guy who scores his tries by being really strong and hard to tackle. He doesn't look that impressive, but 2 or 3 defenders can't stop him scoring. Naturally strong guys are the type that go well in seniors usually, so he might be one worth giving a preseason to.
