2021 signing rumours

Ok, looks like a done deal according to Rothfield. Souths flipped and wanted him back, but he'd already signed here.

I like Kalyn and im glad he is here but if he wanted to leave at the end of 22 it wouldn't worry me that much . Personally i think Best would be just as good there especially in 2 years time.
The money he would free up would allow us to offer a contract to any f/b in the comp . Yes i would much rather he stay but we would be able to cover the loss imo either with Best , Watson or with a mill or more to spend a Teddy.

Jack Johns is a very smart and versatile footballer, but I don't know how we use him.
Too small to make a good forward and very injury prone.

I've been waiting for years for a second generation Knight to make firstgrade, and it would be fitting if it were a Johns.

I just googled him and he has signed and he does play 5/8 as well as back row , just saying .

Johns spent 2 years in our lower grades - a year in under 20s and a year in reserve grade.
He struggled with leg injuries and rarely got a chance to play injury free.
we tried him at centre, 5/8, second row and I think halfback during one game.
He score one great try that I remember where him and Brodie Jones ran half the length of the field passing the ball back and forth between them and completely bewildering the defence.
In two year he was fit enough to have 3 or 4 games where he looked like he was his father's son and capable of some brilliant football - but mostly he limped around on one leg.

Barry Toohey said Jack Johns has been training and is on a developmental contract with us

Can someone explain to me what the criteria for a development contract is? I would have thought at his age and the fact he’s played first grade he wouldn’t be eligible for a Development contract?

Can’t say I’m disappointed with this, sport is about good stories and if there were to be another Johns wear the Res & Blue for Newcastle it would bring great joy to a lot of people.

Let’s hope Jack can develop into a good player

No.
When they brought it in there were a lot of rules - like it had to be a 2 year deal, they had to be under 23 and they had to be doing some sort of vocational training - but now it just seems to be 6 positions for low payed players we can't use in firstgrade till mid season.

2020 might have been the year that Jack Johns needed.
If he got to train a lot and let that hip or groin or whatever it was injury fully recover, he might be able to finally show us what he's got.

He was decent in the little First Grade he did get. His debut against Canberra in Canberra was solid.

Always looked talented but inconsistent in the 20’s for us. He might be ready to kick on after a few years in Sydney.

Dev contract is a smart play.

Personally don't rate him too highly but he has another chance. Probably his last before park footy.

I looked at Johns for Souths in 2019 in reserve grade.
He played 24 games without missing any.
He played halfback, 5/8, bench utility and 6 games of second row.
He didn't play second row till round 8. In the first 7 games he played 3 games at halfback, 1 at 5/8 and 3 at number 14.
The article on the Knights site calls him a ball playing second row - fair description I suppose.

Doubt these are Zammit signings. The guy never did this at the Cowboys. Focused mostly on the local talent with a couple of kiwis and Pacific Islanders thrown in.

Young was basically in the door within a matter of days when Zammit was signed if memory serves me right so I don’t think he had anything to do with it.

He is highly rated in England and has been on Knights head of recruitment Clint Zammit's radar for a couple of years.
New Knights signing Bailey Hodgson

"He's a young player with a heap of potential and we'll be giving him the time and resources to grow into the player we believe he will become,"Zammit told the Newcastle Herald.

Looks like you're wrong on at least one of them
