2021 NSW Cup

[Owey]

So Fergo up against Lucas and Veaila - that will be a good test for them.
If 200 year old Fergo gets out jumped by 17 year old Veaila I think it's time to retire.

Well, Billy, it happened!! Fergo has to retire now!

I'm 30 miles away and I saw that coming an hour ago.
The kid can leap.

[Owey]

He's just saved a try by taking Fergo over the sideline too, doing a great job on him

[Owey]

He was playing centre in the first half but has swapped with Lucas now

[Billy]

Jirah is off after doing a 45 minute stint - replaced by Ticehurst.

ended up better than I thought it would, given how young our side was and how many firstgraders they had.
Our only player with firstgrade experience was Shiba I think.

[member 2299]

Billy Billy Shiba has not had any first grade experience, rather just appearances.

[Mr Goanna]

commendable effort...danger of falling down the ladder though...

Stats are in for the game.
Hodgson had an impressive 22 runs for 182 metres at fullback.
Ben Talty topped the fantasy points with 57 and run metres for a forward with 114 in 80 minutes, but Jirah Momoisea ran 110 metres in only 45 minutes.
Jaron Purcell topped the tackle count with 31 and 2 missed and also ran 87 metres in 54 minutes at lock (they have him listed as second row - but Talty and Jenkins both played 80 minutes as second rowers).

Will be interesting to get a look at Hodgson, if they don't call him up to firstgrade.

Liked what I saw from Hodgson. Didn't look like he was lacking in fitness or confidence. Constantly popped up where he needed to be in defence and was very vocal telling the defensive line where to move, not sure if they could always understand him though. Best sequence of the game, a Parra player went straight through and Bailey took him down in a great 1 on 1 tackle, and then got up and sprinted back 30 metres to clean up a grubber in goal on the next play.

Didn't have much opportunity in attacking position due to the team constantly dropping the ball, but he was always right behind the ruck following the play and got stuck in taking tough hit-ups. Actually made metres too despite his frame, used his speed and footwork to get quick play the balls and rarely got pushed back.

[Joel]

Hoy straight to 5/8 when Ponga's back, sorry Tex

Highlights are up.
Here is a screenshot of Chris Veaila leaping over Ferguson to score - the ball is circled in red.

Could’ve done with wrapping the ball up a bit better in the tackle. Offloads killed us. Nice try by Young. Nasty bounce for Hodgson on the try under the posts. Wonder if he could’ve attacked the ball.

The named side for NSW cup this week only has 3 players who couldn't play under 21s, and Huth and Mac Baker are only 1 year too old. I don't know how old Tolefoa is, but wouldn't be much older than 23 or so.
No Talty, Hosking, Croker, Momoisea, Johns, Randall or Shibasaki leaves us pretty short of experience, especially in the forwards.
