2020 Harold Matts and SG Ball

Mathews go from 8th to 5th with their big win.
They play 6th placed Canberra in Cessnock next week,
Their only 2 loses so far have been against the sides coming 1st and 2nd after this round.

Ball remain in 1st place, although Penrith have a game in hand because their 1st round game was postponed, and they could jump past the Knights if they win that game.
Ball have 4 wins and a draw to remain undefeated.
Next week they play 3rd last placed Central Coast in Cessnock.
 
I notice the Knights replaced both hooker Naigolivia and halfback Pezet with 15 minutes to go in the game, when we'd run up a big enough lead to ensure the win.

Highlights of Mathews start at 1.52
Ethan Ferguson looks impressive (number 3).
Scored 3 tries, kicked goals, set up his winger for at least 1 of his 3.
He is a big guy as well. He looked twice the size of some of the guys trying to tackle him. He was also fast enough to take an intercept and run 80 to score.
Taj Blackman also looked as nippy and dangerous as he did last year in Mathews.

For the second week in a row we have had a great win in Ball and there are no highlights.
 
I looked up Te Arahi PARAHA, the big number 21 who had some impressive, powerful runs and scored a longrange try in the Mathews game.
This was his first game for us.
He played for Auckland under 16s against the Knights under 16s on their end of season tour of NZ last year.
I don't remember us bringing over a 15 year old from NZ before, but he looks like an impressive player. In the Taj Blackman try, Paraha looked like he was struggling forward with half the side hanging off him and he got a quick play the ball for Blackman to run through where all those defenders should have been. It actually reminded me of Tevita Pangai Junior in under 16s for us.

Strong looking Ball side. They should be able to run up a big score and get that for and against looking good. If Chris Vea'ila is good to go I'd drop him in at centre.
 
Interesting that Ball is on before Mathews and Tarsha Gale.
It makes sense because Ball are playing the team from 1/2 an hour away and Mathews are playing the guys from 5 hours away, so they don't have to get up at 4AM to get to the game on time.

Pretty sure they mean Fletcher Myers at number 4.
Last week was the worst result of the season in Ball - just won against a team who hasn't won a game - they need to bounce back this week against much better opposition.
 
I notice the NSWRL facebook page has put up a highlights package of Ethan Ferguson and the Telegraph have an article on him, calling him a teen sensation and a future star.

He does look way too good for under 16s. He looks like he could play under 20s tomorrow, but he's 2 years too young.
I'm just watching Latrell Mitchell, and Ferguson has a bit of Latrell about him.

Such a shame that these comps have been cancelled for the year.
The ball side would have been favourites for the title and 4 or 5 of them are potential future firstgraders, so missing most of the year is not good.

Best 3 tries of the Mathews comp.
last try is Knights centre Ethan Ferguson scoring 1 of his 6 tries. to be honest, I thought he scored at least 2 better than that. The guy picking the tries seems to like brute force because all 3 he chose are just big guys belting their way over the line, but Ferguson showed a whole range of skills, including setting up his wingers for more tries than he scored as well.
