2017 Pre-Season

Anthony Tupou has been released from his Wakefield contract.
He was linked to us in the past but does anyone see him fitting into or making our 1st grade squad for 2017 if he was to join? I think he'd add some old head experience but can only see him making a bench spot at best.
I don't see him in our top 17, but i'd love to see him in our squad. As I've said before, him and his 3 brothers were all great in our lower grades and were all great trainers and great clubmen.
He would be great value for 100k or so.

Oi massive lol at all you blokes banging on about Meany at FB

There's an 18 year old by the name of KAYLN PONGA coming to the club to play FB long term. And i dont give **** about overstating his potential, he will be the best ball runner in our team in 2018, and in a very short space of time he'll be one of the smarter tacticians on the park. Even if he fails to live up to his proclaimed potential he will still be the centrepiece of our backline for the next half decade. It is so bloody obvious what he is capable of. And for anyone who says that we need to be careful etc, honestly, i think that type of trepidation should be reserved exclusively for halves, they're the real unknown. Running Fullbacks who can shred NRL defensive lines at 18 hahaha, hes gonna be good

Im sorry Meany, but i hope you can make an impression on the wing or in the centres, because that'll be your only realistic longterm opportunity

That won't help us in 2017, unless they finally release him.

Meaney could be the next Feaney! You don't know until they are put under the pressure all the ability in the world don't mean ****.

Whichever fullback we settle on I hope they learn to run into a defensive line to fall not with chest up and get driven back 5 metres.

It's pretty funny how Browny like good trainers, yet he's trying to get rid of both Randell and Mamo.
It's just a throwaway line Browny uses when he signs an average player "he's a good trainer".

I just don't understand the Randall one. I think he is great value. Taking too much salary cap though? Wtf does Browny want for 200k geeezusss.

Why pay 200k for a 3rd choice hooker when you can get someone on a 2nd tier contract? All about saving the $$$ where we can to try and help improve our starting 17 as much as we can!

Randell was only ever going to be a fill in untill Levi was ready anyway he was always going to be on the outer after that anyway and Mamo doesn't have the temprement or control to be a good first grader ...Add they're money to the pool and buy a better player than both of them ......

We needed Randell up until we signed Kosty, Randell's role then became redundant. They're the same style of player, one could argue that Randell is probably more talented then Kosty but at this stage he doesnt have the other attributes Kosty seems to have--the ones we need most

And simply because someone is a good trainer doesnt guarantee them a spot in the sqaud, its just a great place to start

It seems to be something of a rule, Kenny, not all good trainers are good players but some poor trainers become great players. No doubt good trainers please the coaches eye.

Good luck convincing Pete to leave, to the same club, again. He's probably going to be here for a while. Brown wouldn't have bought him back if he didn't like him. He's ordinary but if the Dragons wanted a Mata'utia I'd give them Pat over Pete.

Ahh well Matty I think we have three stones and maybe one diamond! This year will be make or break for Sione after a full pre-season building up for the back row.

Yep I'm the one who thinks Randall is better then kosty. Only experience is all kosty has over Tyler. Kosty is 29.... So May have what 3 years in him at best. Tyler is 24 and has 8 years or so in him. I know who I'd be choosing.

I know Brown did say something about being salary cap friendly but let's be serious. Came from two winning cultures who made him look miles better then what he is so I reckon he has signed for at least 300k.

Talk or Randell on the ESL forums seems to have died down.
It looks to me like he will stay, and I think he'll be in the mix at some stage of the season.
Woolford could be a good coach for Randell. He was certainly a player who played with aggression and took control a lot, and those are both things Randell needs to work on.
Half a season in reserve grade working on being a more dominant and aggressive player as pretty much the senior player in the side wouldn't be bad for him.

The point is people on here and Browny tries to justify keeping/signing players like the Mata'utia brothers because apparently they are good trainers.
Randell and Mamo would be close to our 2 best trainers at the club.

A few people have named Chanel for a wing spot, was just curious as to what people think of this? He started off being our first choice winger ahead of Ross then picked up an injury and wasn't able to get back in front of him. With Elliot and Gagan now at the club it'll be interesting to see what happens there. I'd personally like to see what Gagan has to offer because he seemed like a McManus type player for Cronulla when he got his chance.

Chanel picked up a serious injury 15 minutes into game one. He stayed on the field and managed to make a few runs in the second half - but he was basically a passenger. It took ages to get back on the field, and he picked up an injury in his first game of reserve grade, which finished him for the season.
I haven't seen him in any of the training picks except the swimming ones, so i'm not convinced he is fit even now.
I'd love to see him get fit and play some games, but after basically not playing in 2016, he needs to come back through reserve grade.
