To be honest the only player I am disappointed in missing out on so far is Jack Bird.
With Foran a distant second.

Would love James Graham here but I imagine that is not a realistic possibility.

The rest I am not to fussed about. Some could woulda shoulda be nice but not players that would have made me feel good about next year.

Im more happy to have re-signed guys like Barnett and Levi personally.

How long before Brown's inability to attract players comes under scrutiny ?

Never, apparently.

Not much left in terms of players off-contract. Agnatius Paasi and James Gavet would be upgrades, but hardly thr rep players we are supposed to be targeting. Maybe Ray Thompson? He's got a rad haircut at least.

Browny will take some blame from fans and pundits because he is our current coach but he inherited a club which has been in decline for a long time and hit rock bottom in 2016

I think people are too quick to blame Brown, I'd prefer to judge him at the end of his contract

The board will also cop blame as will the NRL which according to Rothfield isn't helping at all

This is from his column last week, Whether it's accurate I'm not sure but it is concerning

I think the most important thing for the Knights atm is the sale of the club, It needs to happen ASAP

BROWN HOBBLED

ONE of the biggest problems for the Newcastle Knights’ recruitment drive is that coach Nathan Brownneeds to get financial approval from the NRL for major signings.

We all know getting a decision out of Moore Park headquarters is notoriously slow.

Ask the clubs who have had to wait 18 months since the $1.8 billion TV deal was finalised just to get a salary cap figure for 2018.

This is what i pinpointed to last night, the nrl are crippling us and there own brand over and over because a corporate banker see dollar signs before common sense!

Im highly frustrated atm with the continuous nock backs which the nrl are partly to blame.

I don't see why the NRL forces us to have player contracts ratified by them, we have the cap money to spend and should be able to manage it ourselves. Sure, maybe present the NRL a cap summary of how we are going etc, even do this with each signing, but to have the NRL veto our signings and have to approve them is ludicrous.

Of course, they are also crippling us on the TPA front but I would much rather the NRL actually enforce the salary cap correctly and stop the TPA rorting by other clubs over us starting to cheat the system also.

But we all know the NRL are not going to bother fixing the system, so what are we supposed to do.

So let's get this straight.

The NRL were not letting us spend the full cap as they wanted some of the cap money to repay their loans, in the past.

They also cripple us by having to have all player signings approved by them, which adds time and allows others in to the market for them, jack bird is a prime example.

We are trying to sell the region as a great place to live, luring player talent with that, and at that same time the NRL pressure the sale by saying moving the team away from the region is an option!

And lastly, they cripple us from being able to use any TPA advantage as we are NRL owned, and all contracts go through them, so we can hardly try anything virtually every other club can do!

But all this failing to lure talent is somehow on Brown lol!

Titans don't seem to have the same issue with the nrl.

The titans are not being sold, at the moment. And also, are not threatened by the NRL looking to move them as they are seen as crucial, as are we I would have thought, but the NRL make the threat regardless.

Why do people keep on bringing this up when Matt Gidley refuted it? I put the NRL having to approve signings in the same basket, unfounded speculation.

The AFL aren't going to put a team in Newcastle.

The signs are good that Dane Gagai will stay at NRL battlers Newcastle but Knights coach Nathan Brown could not rule out a rival swooping on their star centre, saying "any weight of money can get anyone".

Off-contract Gagai is yet to decide whether to trigger a clause for a further season at Newcastle. Cronulla and St George Illawarra are reportedly circling the Queensland State of Origin flyer as Brown sweats on Gagai's verdict.

Brown said Gagai had indicated he wanted to stay but admitted "anything is possible" in the current NRL player market.

"I am not going to sit here and guarantee he will do one thing or another," Brown said "But he likes Newcastle. He understands what Newcastle is all about.

"He is very happy here. His family is happy here but any weight of money can get anyone."

The Dragons are reportedly interested with a question mark over Josh Dugan's future and defending champions Cronulla are believed to have targeted Gagai after losing NSW star Jack Bird to Brisbane from 2018.

Brown was not surprised Gagai was in demand but hoped the speedster would stay and help rebuild Newcastle.

"I know Gagai is keen on the idea of staying," he said.

"We need to make sure we get the next five and six years in recruitment right.

"And Gags is someone who we would love to be a part of that."

Newcastle will look to snap a six-game NRL losing streak on the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Browny sure has changed his tune.
He was willing to let Gagai go at the start of season.
But now with other clubs chasing Gagai, Browny wants him to stay long term.
Problem is other clubs are willing to throw big bucks at him and actually use him properly.

I don't know but you guys, but I wouldn't be able to respect my coach after he ***** slapped his captain at the Dragons lol
Maybe that's why he's struggling to attract players?

Each and every time we wish to sign a player, the Club goes cap in hand to Turdburg, lodges an application and awaits their Royal Hignesses in Phillip Street making a decision. By the time they get off their royal rear ends, the bidding war has bypassed us and players have signed elesewhere.
