All these whispers, rumours and want to bees. Should post a bond with them. And Holmes wants to play one position and one position only and Barba's fall will provide that opportunity.

Bird would have to bulk up to play lock at only 93 kg now and a talent like that would be wasted at lock imo... Centre is where he plays best ..As everyone knows I like big centre's but this guy is bloody good and best at centre i'd take him ...Ponga ,Holmes , Bird , Gagai, Ross That would be one talented Backline but I still don't think they will pay that much for Holmes to play wing ...

No way is Bird best at centre. He was so much better this year at centre than last year when he was at five-eighth wasn't he? At some point this year, Brown said that in today's game, centres are the least involved players in the whole team. He may have been referring to Gagai or Sione. And thinking about it, I think it's quite true. Centres don't often do too much anymore, they rarely get passed to & when they do, they're expected to put the winger away. These days, you don't want to be playing highly talented/highly paid players at centre if you don't have to.

lol Joshhh I think you may have used a sledge hammer to drive the 1" nail with that least involved players. I like it.

Bird would be wasted in the centres with us. If we somehow signed him I'd have him at 6 with Lamb or Cogger at 7.

How did cronulla go with him at centre last season and how did he go individually ...

Cronulla went fantastic infact the greatest yr in the clubs history.
Why?
Well they had a fantastic ballance of brute force skill smarts and cool heads.

Bird played well outside arguably the best 5/8 in nsw and behind one of the best packs in the game.

Though cronulla and Newcastle are worlds apart and birds price will double from what he was being paid in that GF.

Put it this way, id take Joey Leilua over him anyday of the week

Bird playing centre is not why they won the premiership. Cowboys should play Thurston off the bench coz that's where he played in the Bulldogs' premiership team right? He's a spine player, or a roaming backrower. Will be a very poor use of funds if Brown & Mooney decide to entice him for 700k-1mil to play centre.

He's said himself he's bored in the centres so to be fair, I think Brown would find a better position than centre to play him if we can sign him.

Why do I have this feeling that brown just wants to sign decent players without even having a position for them to fill. Even jack Bird probably doesn't know 100 percent where he wants to play. I'd only pay big bucks for spine players and the 2 starting front rowers. The rest have to earn it!

Bird is the type of player you make a game plan around, rather than have him fitting into a game plan.
It wouldn't really matter what number we stuck on his back - the idea is to have him running at poor defenders and gaps and get the ball to him - centre, lock, 5/8, wing - doesn't matter as long as he has a playmaker looking to give him opportunities.

I might be in the minority but it wouldn't really bother me if we didn't get Bird. He goes missing far too often (both at 5/8 and in the centres) to justify the money he'll ask for. He had some great games in 2015 but probably had more average ones. This year was the same.

He is young.
As with all our young guys, they have good games and bad games. You can't expect young and inexperienced players to be consistently good.
He impressed the hell out of me in a few games and as he gets older he'll either do that more consistently, or prove to be one of those flash in the pan type players, and we've already seen his best.

Huge difference between our young guns and Bird.

Ours have had to fight for every inch, his had stars do that for him and given him room to shine which imo is not often enough for 500k or more.
Id take Leilua back over him anyday.

Bird would be in the halves or not at all and yep I was very disappointed when Leilua was allowed to leave. An absolute beast !!!
