Kyle Lovett is quite possibly the worst back rower in the NRL. Surely there's about 30 players you could pick before him?

Is it just me or does the looks both look a bit dull this year? I generally love this fixture, more than the test match but this year idk I think the could have done better

You say some stupid sh*t on here but this has got to be the worst one to date. Surely you can't be serious in preferring this non event fixture over the ANZAC Test in years gone by?

Yeh I like seeing the players go for an origin jumper, generally the city country teams have new players and it's a bit of variety rather than the same teams going at it.
And you're not very disrespectful most of the time but swearing and going off at me for an opinion I thought that was beneath you.

You're kidding yourself if you think this fixture is a chance for a outsider to get into the origin side. It's a glorified trial for the bush footy nothing more, nothing less. Proof is in the pudding with the annual withdrawals of half the originally selected players.

You will be the only person that is a NRL fan that would think this, though nothing surprises me about you these days.

CITY Origin officials were forced to punt Addin Fonua-Blake this week after it emerged he had played for the Junior Kiwis.

Despite growing up in Sydney and playing for three SG Ball and Harold Matthews junior clubs, Fonua-Blake was quietly told to pack his bags not long after he had been fitted out in his City tracksuit.

Manly teammate Darcy Lussick was brought in to replace the young front-rower.

You have to wonder if City officials did their homework and realised Fonua-Blake would not be available for the Blues.

NSWRL boss Dave Trodden said there had been a discussion with the NRL, and because Fonua-Blake was ineligible for NSW, he could not take part in Sunday’s clash in Tamworth.

“That assumes the whole purpose of this game is an Origin trial,’’ Trodden said.

“And if it’s a genuine Origin trial, I understand the issue of eligibility.

“(But) the way the game has been treated the last couple of years, you have to question if that’s its true purpose, or whether its purpose is to promote football in country regions of NSW.”

Back to the bush for Tariq

Fri 6th May, 10:36AM

Newcastle Knights enforcer Tariq Sims is set to play his fifth Country v City Origin game this weekend, and is as excited as ever to pull on the maroon, yellow and white jersey.

With the likes of Danny Buderus, Andrew Johns and Timana Tahu having played for the side in years gone by, Sims is well aware of the legacy he will continue.

“To be a part of this and see the blokes that have worn this jersey before us is special,” he said.

“I do look at this as a big game, I just want to make sure that I go out there and do my job to the best of my ability.”

With the game taking place in Tamworth this year, the Country Origin camp has made themselves at home in the regional centre 300 kilometres north-west of Newcastle.

“It’s been great, everyone in town is very happy and helpful,” Sims explained.

“Country people are always going to be country people, they love the concept and to be able to take a game out to the bush has been amazing.”

The Country team that has been selected is typically robust, with regular NSW players James Maloney and Boyd Cordner starting.

Added to that are Origin hopefuls such as Jarrod Croker and Tyson Frizell, as well as the Knights’ own Sims.

“The boys are in high spirits, as soon as we got on the field together it was like slipping into an old shoe,” Sims said.

“To rub shoulders with these blokes, pick their brains and to get to train with them all week is awesome.

“Everyone’s getting along like a house on fire. Everyone’s keen to chip in and help out, and they’re a bunch of larrikins.”

The game clearly means a lot to the Country players as well, as Sims pointed out.

“I think we’ve only had one bloke pull out through injury, so it goes to show how much this means to country people.”

The Country v City game takes place at 4pm on Sunday.

Tamworth's AAMI Country-City clash sold out

Sat 07 May, 2016, 4:49pm

NRL

The annual AAMI Country-City Origin clash has officially sold out for the second consecutive year ahead of Sunday's match at Tamworth’s Scully Park.

In a wonderful result for Rugby League, the final tickets were sold today to an excited public eagerly waiting to see their NRL heroes take the field.

It follows last year’s sell-out crowd in Wagga Wagga.

“The Country-City fixture is one of the most rewarding weeks on the Rugby League calendar.

"To see the smiles on these people’s faces when we walk through the streets is something very special,” KARI City Origin Coach Brad Fittler said.

“For many people in the country, seeing these players in their hometown is a once in a life time opportunity.

"It’s great to see the people of Tamworth supporting Rugby League and purchasing tickets to tomorrow’s match.”

Horrendous effort by Country. Certain individuals need to be taught how to attack and defend all over again.
