Pondekas must be injured, although that is such a strong pack, someone had to miss out.
If it were earlier in the season i'd like to see Feeney tried as bench hooker so we could get Lamb and Cogger into the side, but it's too late to make a change like that.

Pondekas ruled out for 1 week with concussion and will be available for the Dragons game.

Apparently Joe Boyce is leaving next year

I said a few pages back that he's the weakest link in our pack. He seems like a really mature player and is a solid defender but he has no impact, he offers very little compared to the other forwards. He could go onto being a reliable player though.

I think Petterson-Robati would thrive there as a ball playing lock as @avdulla said but he wouldn't go the full 80.

Can't wait for the game on Saturday, a win should seal the minor premiership.

Head-to-head:

The Newcastle Knights NYC side is determined to produce its best football this weekend to earn a valuable victory over the Eels in the second last round of the competition.

NYC team manager, Craig Smith reveals the team’s concentration this week has been on the process of what it takes to get a victory.

“It’s pretty much game by game, and that’s a cliché in rugby league, that’s the way you have to look at it,” Smith said.

At this stage of the competition, intensity heightens for the top-of-the-table Knights with the first four teams on the ladder playing each other in the last month of the season.

“We played Brisbane last week and they were second on the ladder and they played semi final style football, we’d be expecting Parramatta who sit third to up the ante a little bit at this time of the year,” Smith said.

The Knights regather after a 36-16 loss to a tough Broncos side last week up at Brisbane, but have solace in the fact they hold on to their long held number one position.

“Especially with the 20s, it’s important to keep your feet on the ground,” Smith said.

“If we go looking at the bigger picture and where we might be and what we’re doing, you sort of lose focus of what you’re attempting to do.

“If we stick to our structures, which we pretty much have done all year, knowing that they’ll make us competitive and knowing that if we work
hard we’ll get the win, then everything else sort of looks after itself."

Parramatta is big and strong across the park and has improved in the back half of the season to sit at third on the table.

“They will be a threat,” Smith admits.

“We need to be playing semi-final football now.

“We just need to build pressure, complete our sets and play our football.”

Smith is confident the Knights have the drive and talent to earn the two points.

“Not only do we sit number one on the table but we are also the number one attacking side in the competition meaning we can score points,” he said.

“We’ll look to move into the next couple of weeks with a bit of confidence leading into the semis."

The NYC Knights also have a good record at home winning three of the last four games at Hunter Stadium and are eager to kick off the triple-header with a win.

“We need to get through our game plan and the result should handle itself at the end of the day.

“It’s always good to start the day well and that’s what we intend to do.”

Where it will be won:
Mistake-free football

The Knights need to serve up a grinding style of football to the Eels this weekend.

“We were taught a little bit of a lesson from Brisbane on how to play that style of football and in completing sets,” Smith said.

The Knights will be strengthened by the return of Joe Tapine, who played in the NRL last week and Jake Mamo, who was rested due to a back injury.

“We will nearly be fielding our best team, so that’s a bonus,” he said.

The numbers:

The Knights sit at number one on the ladder, the Eels at third place.

If the NYC Knights gain a win over the Eels, they are one week away from securing the minor premiership.

This season, the Knights have 15 games, drawn two and lost five to earn 36 points, clear of the second placed Broncos by one point and the Eels by two.

Dragons are carving up Brisbane in the first half, exactly what we need

Dragons win + Knights win = Knights minor premiership

Fingers crossed!

The Dragons have won 6 out of their last 8 and have hit 40+ points in their last 3 games, They look dangerous

Broncos stopped giving updates, now I know why lol

Dragons win 52-18

It's up to our boys tomorrow now to win to guarantee the minor premiership. I think every fan should get behind them seeing as they've been the club's only shining light all year.

Watch them tomorrow at Hunter Stadium at 10.30am or watch it live on Fox Sports 1

Just to add to that, Our NSW Cup team is aiming for a top 2 finish as well so get behind them everyone !!!

:Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights::Knights:

Dragons are now only 32 points behind us on for and against.
If we get a narrow win against Parra, the dragons are still a small chance to pinch the minor premiership if they can beat us by 40 or so in the last game.

It's probably a good thing that we are getting these tough games in the last rounds. We have definately been a bit complacent all season and need to up our game. No more slow starts or going to sleep in the last 10 minutes.

If we can beat Parra by 10+ points we should be okay, we'd have to lose by 45+ points at home, I don't see that happening but if anything is possible in the NYC

Young Knights ready to make history

Fri 29th August, 07:15PM

The top of the table NYC Newcastle Knights are set to face two of the most important games of the season with the minor premiership hanging in the balance.

The Knights will be looking to secure a victory over the Parramatta Eels on Saturday to guarantee a lead into the final round against the St George Dragons next weekend.

If the team, which has held it’s number one position for the majority of the year, secures the minor premiership, it will be the first for the Club since the inception of the National Youth Competition in 2008.

The dominating NYC side is a testament to the calibre of the Knights’ young talent with three of its members making their NRL debut and two of the Club’s SG Ball players joining the run-on squad in the back end of the season.

For consistent back rower, Lachlan Fitzgibbon it’s important to focus on the job at hand this weekend against the Eels and not take too much confidence out of the Knights’ win against the side earlier in the season.

“They didn’t have their two halves last time and they have them back this time, so it should be a hard encounter,” he said.

“We have a few boys back from NRL, Joey (Tapine) and Jake (Mamo) so it will be interesting to see how we go."

Fitzgibbon says the Eels are renowned for their size and strength.

“A lot of sides are big in 20s, but Parra especially," he added.

“It’s always good facing the big boys, but we have a few big boys of our own so they should shape up nicely.

“It will definitely be exciting to see how we go.”

Fitzgibbon believes one of the defining elements that’s contributed to the team’s success on the field is the bond the teammates share.

“The bond has been there all year, I think that’s credit to how we’ve gone all season,” he said.

“In the back end of the season it's been even better because everyone is even tighter because you want to win just that little bit more.”

And then there’s the young talent who have shot up in the back end of the season to provide a spark for the team.

Sixteen-year-old Jack Cogger has made his mark in the short time since making his debut in Round 22.

A highlight for the young halfback so far was his debut match when the team earned a 38-0 victory over the Melbourne Storm

“I see a lot of NYC games are high scoring games between both teams, but to come out first game and win 38-0 against a fairly good opposition, it was definitely the highlight so far," he said.

“I’m hoping for a few more heading into the semis.

Cogger feels well prepared for Saturday’s match and says the team will rise to the occasion at Hunter Stadium.

“They (Eels) are sitting up the top right behind us, but the boys are ready for it and I’m sure we’ll go out there coming off a loss last week
looking for a bit of redemption,” he said.

“Hopefully we keep pushing on in semi finals and we stay in a bit of form and finish off the season well.”

The Knights are also sure to receive a boost from Tapine, who looks forward to his return to the U20s side after playing in the NRL last week.

“I expect a hard game from the team we’re playing and we’re going to be playing 100 per cent,” he said.

“I expect a win, but we are going to be fighting for it.

“It’s always daunting coming up against bigger sides and Parramatta is definitely one of them.

“We have to try to our game plan and tire out those big boys and prepare for that.

“It’s a good test for the boys and it’s coming into the fun side of the competition where you have to get the win."

The young forward has kept a close eye on the team when playing up in first grade and has praised new additions Lamb and Cogger for their positive impact on the team.

“They are two solid halves for the future,” Tapine said.

“They are good at organising, even though they are new they talk to the boys.

“They execute plays well together too."

Tapine said at this stage of the season with a final game against the St George Dragons following the Eels, the team is already preparing for what it needs to deliver if it makes the finals.

“These two tests are going to be a big challenge for us," he said.
