2009 NRL Player Rumours & Signings

Raiders is interesting considering they have Todd Carney and Terry Campese. However it could be a possibillity. Walsh to the tigers I cant see it when Marshall, Head and John Morris are still there.

And Tim Moltzen who is in NYC.

Tigers wont sign him, Well if they do they are idiots considering they have about 4 brilliant halves in the juniors.

We may be more inclined to let him go depending on what happens with Taumata.

Has anyone heard anything else regarding Knights and Taumata anyways?

Iosia Soliola > Cronulla Sharks.

Just a rumour, though I've heard they may release him because of salary cap reasons and he may be off to the Cronulla Sharks.

I rate Soliola as a player and I think he'd be a great pickup for them. Both him and Pomeroy in the centres would be a good pairing IMO. Both big, strong, powerful centres.

Josh Lewis, Luke Swain, Gavin Cooper, James Stosic, Michael Hodgson and Kris Khaler to weild the Titans axe

Gold Coast Titans wield the axe

GOLD Coast's desire to push through its promising batch of homegrown stars has left six NRL squad members on the scrap heap for next season.

Former Test prop Brad Meyers will be the last off-contract Titan to be handed a deal for 2008, with half a dozen players told to pack their bags.

The Titans' cleanout will claim regular first-grader Michael Hodgson plus Gavin Cooper, Luke Swain, James Stosic, Kris Kahler and Josh Lewis - who have all failed to find permanent spots this campaign.

Hodgson, who has played 15 first-grade games this year, is set to link with the Bulldogs next year alongside Broncos duo Ben Hannant and Michael Ennis.

His five off-contract teammates are still searching for new homes, having fallen victim to the club's policy to nurture its own development system.

The stocktake will see emerging under-20s trio Shannon Walker, Will Matthews and Kayne Lawton join the top squad in '09 with key signings Will Zillman and Sam Tagataese.

Meyers, who played three Origin games and four Tests in 2001, is in the final stages of negotiating a two-year deal, likely to be his last.

Cooper's exit will end a disappointing two-year stint with the Titans after the Murgon product arrived from Townsville earmarked as a future Origin star.

Despite a stunning debut season with North Queensland in 2006, Cooper has failed to hit top flight as a Titan, despite 32 appearances.

"I'm getting limited opportunity," Cooper said. "It's frustrating but I'm biding my time. You can't walk around with your lip on the ground."

Swain, who claimed a premiership with Penrith in 2003, has been squeezed out of the NRL squad since the arrival of Maroons utility Ash Harrison.

The 26-year-old, limited to just eight NRL hitouts this campaign, is now hunting a new deal.

Lewis - who played 11 games in 2007 after joining the Coast from the Roosters mid-year - has failed to cut the mustard this season.

Stosic (18 games) and Kahler (17) will also go after limited opportunities in the club's second year.

Don't think any would be Knights in 2009. Josh Lewis was playing decent footy. Penrith should pick him up, they need a half.

I have heard rumours:

Hodgson > Bulldogs (Although mentioned in the article)
Stosic > Raiders

Luke Swain is another who has been given limited oppurtunity since leaving Penrith. He might head back there.

Roosters secure Sa and Shackleton
By staff writers
July 02, 2008

THE Sydney Roosters announced Wednesday the re-signing of young up and coming stars Setaimata Sa and Shane Shackleton.

Sa was contracted to the club until 2009 but has signed an extension that will see him remain a Rooster until 2012.

Setaimata debuted for the club in 2007 and has since made his international debut with New Zealand in the 2008 Anzac Test.

Meanwhile, Shackleton has signed a one-year deal that will see him stay at the club until the end of the 2009 season.

The hard working forward joined the Roosters in 2005 and made his debut in the same year.

Shackleton tore his bicep in the Foundation Cup in February and is due to make his comeback within the next month.

The re-signing of both players is in line with the Roosters’ policy of encouraging young and developing talent along with loyalty.

Coach Brad Fittler was enthusiastic about the extension of Shackleton’s contract, believing him to be a real player of the future.

“I’m particularly thrilled that the club has shown loyalty and confidence with Shane who has worked un-endingly to overcome his current injury but above this is his contribution to the club off the field during this difficult time,” said Fittler.

Yeah. Will be sad to see him go but then again it will only mean a promising junior will finally get his shot to impress.
