Must have had it hard in the old days, work hard in the day probally at a coal mine & train hard at night, basically come home & go to bed & then wake up & work hard again. I mean these days you have Planes & trains & cars etc & to imigane rugby league in Australia would become this far is incredible. I guess whoever wins this year, it will a huge celebration!!!

I bought the book about Dally Messenger that is out now, and
it is pretty crazy thinking of the comp back then. Players walked or caught public transport to play, and if they got injured it was a long trek to the hospital!

Amazing to think that Newcastle made the trip on the train to play in the comp.

My dads best mate played for both souths and easts in the late 60's. If he was injured he'd have to pay to get into the ground to watch the game.

I remember reading sumthing about our 1908 side. Not only did they catch a train to the games, they also had to catch a ferry aswell. For what is a few hours drive today it use to take them close to 6 hours beck then

It's a shame that the NRL was founded in 1998.

I do admire your thought of a quality thread though, it's quite amazing to think how the game of rugby league has progressed through the years more importantly the 80's from where the game went truly professional.
