    The pre-season 2026 thread

https://www.newcastleherald.com.au/story/9109786/kalyn-pongas-new-role-hellmanns-secret-sauce-advocate/ Article that's mostly about Ponga getting a new sponser - but towards the end Ponga is asked about the year ahead and he talks about "exciting things" happening in the spine and described...

Top 3 Best Non-Current Knights Players

Ben Kennedy was better than Harragon. If he hadn't left the club and had a few of his best years after leaving it wouldn't be in doubt. Johns Buderus Kennedy

    NRLW 2026

Good run home. I think it will suit our young squad to get the Sharks, Roosters and Broncos over early in the season and then be a chance to go on a 7 game winning streak if we are good enough. 4 of the last 5 at home also gives us a chance to come into the finals at our best. All we have to do...

    2026 team as it stands

New profiles have been added. No Saulo for some reason, but the other new signings are up. I think De Courcey had a profile with a photo, but that is now gone and he has a new one without a photo. They have Brown, Sharpe, Smith and Gamble all listed as 5/8s and still no one listed at halfback...

    Fletcher Sharpe discussion

My thoughts on developing Sharpe. He has the potential to become an elite level spine player. When Nathan Brown had a young guy named Ponga with elite level potential, he pretty much organised the entire pre-season around developing Ponga. Those "opposed sessions" he was so found of were...

    The pre-season 2026 thread

The Toby Winter highlights look like give the ball to Gow or Latu and it's try time.

    2026 team as it stands

The only call there that I can't see is Marzhew in the forwards. He is one of the worst defenders in the comp IMO. Maybe he could defend in the forwards if everyone ran right at him, but at wing he only makes 1 or 2 tackles a game and looks like he's lost if anyone swerves at all. He'd be great...

    The pre-season 2026 thread

It's a great problem to have - trying to decide between a 21 year old Sharpe and a 22 year old Smith - both quality young spine players. I'm not bothered about it, because it will be a miracle if we ever get every spine player fit at the same time. Hardly any side ever gets everyone available...

    The pre-season 2026 thread

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I think Matt McEwen is at least as good a prospect as Diesel Hagan. They are the same age and both play hooker, but very different style. Hagan is smart and skilful and a great organiser, while McEwen is tough, aggressive and competitive. I'm a bit...

    2026 team as it stands

In the unlikely event that we have our entire spine fit, I'd have Sharpe playing fullback or 5/8 in reserves so he could concentrate on getting better as a playmaker. That's his future.

    The pre-season 2026 thread

https://www.newcastleherald.com.au/story/9109314/dylan-brown-poised-to-hit-the-ground-running-at-newcastle-knights/ Article that says Brown's form and the return of Ponga, Sharpe and Lucas is a great springboard for the new coach going into pre-season proper. Also says Dom shouldn't miss too...

    Kalyn Ponga discussion

No one can afford him for 2026. No team has a lazy 1.4 mill of salary cap at this stage of the season. The only place he could possibly go is Union or the new thing. The good news if he wants out is he will be trying all 2026 to sell himself to a new club by playing out of his skin.

    Phoenix Crossland discussion

He was targeted very heavily by Samoa, particularly Haas, who bumped him off in tackles deliberately and repeatedly, but Crossland slowed the big forwards down enough for Kiwi forwards to get there. Last time I looked, towards the end of the game, Crossland had 8 missed tackles, and some of them...

    Dylan Brown discussion

https://www.newcastleherald.com.au/story/9108140/newcastle-knights-recruit-dylan-brown-the-worlds-best-no6/ Article where Foran says Brown can be the world's best 5/8. He raves about Brown's Pacific cup effort and says he's "all but" tied up the golden boot. Not a word from Foran about him as...

    2026 team as it stands

There is always someone who comes out of the blue for round 1 - Sharpe at 5/8 in 2025 - Jed Cartwright in 2024 - Lachie Miller in 2023 etc etc. In the Brown era he could drop in 5 or more new faces. Maybe the new coach (whose name I can never remember without looking it up) will go with all the...

    Phoenix Crossland discussion

Great squad member. He's done a workmanlike job at 7, 6, 9 and he even went OK at centre in one game. The minimum he gives is hard work and aggression in every game. Other teams developed the idea of a smaller, 80 minute lock with a few passing and playmaking skills, and it really suited his...

    Pacific Championships 2025

111 fantasy points, ran 25 times for 184 metres, 1 line break, 3 line break assists, 3 try assists, 10 tackle breaks, 15 tackles - not a bad day at the office for Brown.

    Pacific Championships 2025

Sasagi has turned into the player he looked like being in SG Ball. We had to let him go after about 3 years of injury after injury, but he was always going to be special if he could get fit.

    Pacific Championships 2025

Teague had another good game for Cook Islands - topped the tackle count by a long way with 35, second highest fantasy points with 68. Commentator seemed to think he is still at the Knights. He doesn't have any other club listed. I don't think he'd ever play firstgrade for us, but his big motor...
