2026 Season

Hopefully he doesn't return.
Glad to see the nrl is taking action.
He has reffed plenty of good and entertaining games and to say he shouldn't return goes a little to far. There are very few who reff our wonderful game and it isn't just the players who can have an off day. He has had a shocker start to this season 100% and he is being stood down which was the right thing to do but he is isn't the worst we have ever seen and Im sure many others to come will have shockers as well.

I don’t think people care about making mistakes (well obviously they do but hear me out), a lot of the anger comes from the fact they normally don’t get held accountable at all, normally they can have a **** game and go about their day and no one can criticise them or be fined to high hell.

From players, coaches, board members, owners and so on are all free game but refs get a pass officially.

If you create an environment like that it promotes complacency as you have no fear of repercussions and therefore don’t feel the need to improve. I’m sure the fans would like it better if refs did get punished more for bad games, not saying he shouldn’t come back because mistakes are apart of life, but repercussions would be nice.

Not from coaches, but refs get a huge amount of criticism from virtually every section of rugby league - fans and media.

True I was more talking about officially, coaches and players can dance around it but if they directly critique them it’s a fine, obviously the fans and media critique them (though I believe people like Phil Gould was told not to once before he threatened legal action) but fans always critique them regardless of right or wrong.

I believe the NRL take players and coaches much more seriously, the fact is NRL refs are horrible, calls made in one game won’t be called in the second, the horror missed calls, sometimes the same offical won’t call the same thing twice in one game let alone next week.

I’ll try to find that Phil Gould one if I can but I believe it was last year.

I’m an advocate that coaches and players should be allowed to criticise refs, not allowing and not giving punishments breeds a culture of them not caring as they know nothing will happen.

Them doing this to Liam shows they know the fans were right about this specific incident and it’s a win for fans everytime a bad ref gets dropped

It’s simply called accountability!
Everyone else associated with the game responds to feedback which then hopefully improves the outcome.
The 2 horrific forward passes from the Bulldogs last weekend that resulted in “tries” just didn’t pass the pub test.
