2026 team as it stands

That would confirm for me that he is our halfback next season.

I doubt he would come out and openly say he wants to be our halfback unless he has been told that he will be the halfback

Also, I doubt he would have signed with us if halfback wasn’t where Holbrook intended on playing him. He would have been in chats with Holbrook discussing how Holbrook wanted to use him.

He would have just signed with the Cowboys if Holbrook was going to play him at hooker

This doesn’t mean that Sharpe won’t continue training in the halves, as we will need cover for injuries etc during the year. Sharpe proved he is capable of playing in the halves. He just needs a bit more time
Sharpe has to be in the first 17 every week, barring injury.

In the unlikely event that we have our entire spine fit, I'd have Sharpe playing fullback or 5/8 in reserves so he could concentrate on getting better as a playmaker. That's his future.

Wing or centre for mine. Him and Gags can swap.
This will be the arrangement, little doubt. Gagai will start in the centres every game. Sharpe on the wing.

Great place for Sharpe. We've got a better fullback at the club, but we don't have a better winger than Sharpe, aside from perhaps Dom. So its another position that is now stronger by having signed Smith.

We can’t do that too him. He is a first grade player, one of our best as well.

If you put him in reserve grade, he’d rightfully be asking for an immediate release by the end of the day

He can develop during training. Proper coaching can develop him in the 5/8 or fullback positions

Can fit him into set plays, 2nd wrapping FB or pivot for a short side block play. With Ponga FB in the decoy long-side block play.

Whatever. Im sure the coaches can figure out how to utilise him outside of manifesting free points on the wing

Yeah surely Smith would’ve signed elsewhere if they were adamant he’s playing 9 here.

The other major problem with Sharpe at 6 is if KP gets injured (fingers crossed he can have an injury-free year) it means shuffling the whole spine around.

Sharpe to 1, Brown to 6, Smith 7, Phoenix 9, and someone else to 13.

If Sharpe plays in the backline she moves to 1 and a younger player comes up and fills his backline spot. Simple two straight like for like swaps. Not 5 players all in key positions moving around

It’s also no slight in Sharpe to play centre. Most likely Hammer and Latrell will move to centre to accomodate much lesser players than KP. Both of which are to date far more accomplished players than Sharpe so he shouldn’t see it as a downgrade.

Sorry Billy don’t agree with you on this one. He needs to be in the 17. If there’s an injury in the spine besides hooker we shift him from wing or centre.

I think wing is better option for sharpe then centre he will get the ball more there. And him outside of Bradman we could have our gidley albert combination again with Bradman flicking to sharpe

This is totally agree with. Way more upside to Sharpe in the outside backs and he can even cover halves if there's an injury there.

Not a coach, but a knights fan since 1997, wouldn’t be confused with this:

1. Kalyn Ponga
2. Dominic Young
3. Dane Gagai
4. Bradman Best
5. Fletcher Sharpe
6. Dylan Brown
7. Sandon Smith
8. Jacob Saifiti
9. Phoenix Crossland OR (Purchased/Promoted Hooker)
10. Trey Mooney
11. Dylan Lucas
12. Tyson Frizell
13. Phoenix Crossland OR (Purchased/Promoted Lock)

14. Greg Marzhew
15. Pasami Saulo
16. ( Front Rower) Brodie Jones, Cody Hopwood, Elijah Salesa-Leaumoana, Lachlan Crouch
17. (Back Rower/Lock) Jermaine McEwen, Mat Croker, Thomas Cant

- Ponga to be a fullback, Brown to be a five-eighth, Smith to be a halfback
- Sharpe to have some fun on the wing for a while, score tries, make metres & rove around a bit, to eventually move to fullback
- Marzhew as an impact forward/cover backs, Talakai from Sharks style, works better with a hooker & Crossland playing 13
- Lucas, Best & Sharpe building on the left, Frizell, Gagai & Young building on the right
- Looks maybe a Hooker/Lock & a Front Rower off being a very strong starting 17, probably need younger guys to step into that this year
- Work with the squad as it stands, Knights probably don’t have two ready made hookers to have in the 17, Marzhew could work off the bench, he’s strong/skilful and doesn’t need to play big minutes unless covering an injury in the backs
- Injuries/suspension/form will happen, plenty of versatility there and some players like hunt, schiller & gamble I’m sure will want a position in the first team also

The only call there that I can't see is Marzhew in the forwards.
He is one of the worst defenders in the comp IMO.
Maybe he could defend in the forwards if everyone ran right at him, but at wing he only makes 1 or 2 tackles a game and looks like he's lost if anyone swerves at all.
He'd be great in attack, but I just can't imagine him doing 20 tackles in the forwards.

I want to see Marzhew shed some weight and have another crack on the wing. Does he even step like this anymore?

i agree with this, people are forgetting how good Marzhew is at his best. Our best back 5 is with him and Young on the sting, hopefully they can have a good pre season and want to impress the new staff

That's at least 8 years ago. He was a boy then, his body has physically developed much bigger now. I'd doubt he could get back to that sort of a playing weight and maintain it. He's a big boy.

Marzhew needs to decide whether he wants to play NRL first grade and do the necessary training/coaching to get himself up to standard. On this years form I would say he doesn't make the team, but again if he trains the house down over the break and is willing to work on his game he could become a weapon, it's up to him.

1000 percent agree, and Sharpe has to be somewhere, but with Dom and Sharpe on the Wings we are giving up 10-15 metres each set.

I'll get howled out of here, but I'd either drop Gagai or move him onto the Wing and Sharpe in centres.

Gags meterage isn't terrible, and I want Sharpe closer to the ball.
